CNN Disgusts Me!

Unbelievable. Our media absolutely sucks. The selective journalism CNN does is so heavily biased that Americans simply do not hear about half the events the rest of the world hears about, let alone get both sides of the story. That is poor journalism. My point will follow:

There was a movie, I forget the name of it, where every male Muslim in America was detained after terrorist threats. It caused huge protests as the very fundamentals of America were threatened (as it was during the Japanese Internments of WWII). It made for a great plot, but was fairly unrealistic.

Now, 500-700 arrests are made in Los Angelas. The people arrested were Muslims from 10 Muslim countries required by a recent US Law to register before December 16th. Once they complied, they were detained. 500-700 arrests - all Muslim males over the age of 16. All because they complied with the law. Okay, regardless of whether they deserved to be arrested, or the method of arrests, or even the registration law itself was not discussed, CNN did not even REPORT on this.

Find out some details on BBC where it made the front page of Americas News - and front page as a link on the main news section. 500-700 men arrested all with the same religion is big news ANYWHERE.

So I go to CNN to find the American defense or explanation of the incident and lo and behold, CNN DOES NOT EVEN REPORT IT! 500-700 people arrested of the same religion and the largest new agency in the States does not report it. On the 3rd article of the WEST section of the US News, there is something that mentions the PROTESTS by Muslims following the incident. They reported on the PROTESTS. Unbelievable. They did not mention how many people were arrested, why they were arrested, in which manner they were arrested, the obvious similarities between everyone who was arrested.

Ok, now before you reply, I don't want this to turn into whether or not Muslims are terrorists, or whether or not the registration law is constitutional, or anything of that nature. I want to discuss the selective media we as Americans face.

I agree this should have been reported, but I don't know about calling them arrests per se. The rule was come and register. As I understand it there were so many people that came on the last day that they had to detain some for a time, while they finished the paperwork. It's not really an arrest of muslims, such as it was an INS issue, and these people barely made the deadline to register.

From what I heard all the people "arrested" or detained where all either illegal or overstayed there welcome. So I am glad they were detained and hopefully deported. And I seen this on Fox news last night or the night before so apparently your watching the wrong channel.

They were being arrested because the INS/Federal Gov. used the registration information to detain people who had overstayed their visa's, etc..

there was a big rally/protest at the Federal Building yesterday because of it. People were trying to comply with new regulations and the Feds were using the info against them.

U may be the only person in world who thinks CNN is biased towards the US. They are typically Anti us which is why I think they suck and do not allow it on my TV. Fox news all the way, at least their u get most of both sides of an argument.

And yeah, they should all have been detained if they were illegal AND they should be deported immediately. Same for any other immigrant that is not here legally.

BTW, the movie was under seige with Denzel Washington, Anette Benning and Bruce Willis. Good movie, obviously after 9/11, not so unrealistic!!!!

A 10 January deadline will affect men from Afghanistan, Lebanon, Eritrea, North Korea, Somalia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen
Surprised to see that Saudi Arabia isn't on there - NOT. They produced more 9/11 terrorists than all the other countries put together, but still get preferential treatment.

the law is legal, the people arrested weren't arrested just because they are muslim, they are aliens and law-breakers, in my country illegally. (some for immigration violations, visa violations, etc...) not just muslims either. i believe it said they were from 10 different countries.
i say arrest every last person in my country that is here illegally. my security is of paramount importance compared to some law-breaking
immagrant.
cnn stands for cable news network...there are lots of better places to get your news than on one tv show. try reading the papers sometime.

Well, as you can see they only targeted people in our country not citizens. That is Difference #1 from the Japanese internments. Sure visitors to American get the same rights as we do under our constitution, which right are you saying this violates? I'm sure you can make a case for some right being violated, not sure which though...

Difference #2, these people were not arrested for being citizens of other countries or of a different religion, they were arrested for other offenses and crimes. Valid I would think? What is the problem with that.

Difference #3.
I also hope you note that you make a fallacy in assuming that all Iranians, middle Easterners, etc... are Muslims. If an Iranian who happens to be say Buddhist is required to register, does, and is violating an American statute he will also be arrested. This law is not to target necessarily Muslims, it is to target citizens of states that are at high-risk for terrorism. I'm sure if another nonmuslim region hated America and promoted terrorism as much it would also have nations subject to this rule, even if those countries were non Muslim.

Please note that North Koreans must register as well, this is not solely an Anti-Muslim law.

But your comment on how CNN sucks is true. If you want good news read the NYTimes, Washington Post, Economist, or Wall Street Journal. I have seen related stories on this in some of those sources, don't look at the drivel CNN produces for great stories. It's a good network for getting pure info, but they have junk for explaining stories.

Now let the flames begin!

You people amaze me......everyone that was arrested has broken the law. They all violated the terms of the agreement that ALLOWED them to enter THIS country and thus they are criminals according to US law. If you don't like the immigration laws of the US then don't come here, stay in your own damn country. I, as an US citizen will be arrested if I break Federal/State law......do non-citizens have some special priveleges? I'm sorry that all of you feel that it is a "trick" somehow for the Government to detain people who are LAW BREAKERS because they came in voluntarily.....SORRY. The point is that these people if caught after December 16 would be in a much more serious legal position....it is likely that many of those detained will have their situation cleared up and remain in the US.....but they have broken the law and thus are criminals. As for the ones that end up being deported....GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!!!!

They posted two news articles about it: (1) stating the deadline and reasons for and against it (2) stating that people were detained and the detention was protested. I don't see your point, why do they need a third article stating that people who were breaking the law were detained? Wasn't that covered in article #2? It isn't like they were just detaining all Muslims - that would have been major news. They just detained those that are breaking the law. Things like this occur daily in the US - operations to arrest massive amounts of people who are breaking the law. There was nothing in this event that made it significantly different than all the others that occur daily. So why does it deserve an article about it?

Example of a daily occurance: my home state (Nebraska) is full of factories that employ immigrants from Mexico. Those factories are continuously being raided and having their Mexican looking employees show them their green cards. Anyone without one is detained until they show proof of a green card. Now is this major news? No. Does it specifically target one group of people? Yes! Now you tell me, how is this any different than your situation, and why it then deserves more news coverage.

Yea, the media is corrupt. Frankly they only run stories that will make their papers sell. (or channel, whatever)

I work for a paper myself. We are a college paper so its a lot better, but you would be suprised how we make some of our coverage decisions in the newsroom.

it gets better once you work at papers outside of a college environment where you dont have to worry about pissing off the rabid politically correct liberals. (edit: at least, not at much)

I cannot believe that any news media available to the general public has a bias.

Surely you jest.

All you do is have to look at FOXNEW's very inaccurate reporting today in Mississippi.

I disagree. There are influences from the government but they are more slight than you think. Editorials msot certainly don't reflect the government stance a majority of the time.
