I'm in the odd position of defending a point made by someone who called me a liar, but he's correct that the concept of authoritarianism is broader than just government.
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/authoritarianism?s=t
Certainly, individuals and corporate entities can have attitudes and display behaviors which are authoritarian. You can call it something else when not applied to government, but whatever word you use will have substantially the same meaning.
I just don't think that legally threatening to tell the truth about someone is necessarily an authoritarian act.
Rofl approves of threats to CNN families. You mean a MAGA asshole turned into their bitch?
Meh. CNN has no authority over the guy in the first place. It's not like they can fire him like an employer, cancel the contract or take away his phone like a parent might.
CNN reporters write under their own names, and it's not rocket surgery to find out their relatives and threaten them. But it would cede the moral high ground to CNN permanently. Also, threats of violence are actual crimes. If CNN tracked down this loser and made him their bitch over a gif, I would think long and hard about threatening them and risking giving them evidence thst can send you in jail.Rofl approves of threats to CNN families.

Well what we do know is that Trump himself is beyond shame. Ordinary people are usually not. Read this guy's apology, where he claims not to be a racist. I would assume that he is not this overtly racist in real life. Maybe his wife doesn't even know he's this much of a pig. He doesn't want to be outed because he's embarrassed about what he wrote. He's faced with the prospect of owning his own words and this terrifies him. Trolls only flourish because of the anonymity of the internet.
I don't want anyone actually being outed, but if worrying over the possibility may make someone think twice before advocating genocide, then I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
HanAssholeSolo also thought he was untouchable behind his computer screen. CNN reached out and touched him, and he melted like a little snowflake that he was. I bet he cried like a little bitch and begged them to not reveal his identity.Of course it's not "rocket surgery" because that isn't a thing.
Only in your fevered imagination.
LOL, yeah, all those death threats and doxing occurring every second of the day on the internet are sure leading to massive arrests around the world.
Are there not two parts to this?
The issue of whether internet trolls who post racist and otherwise abusive stuff, should lose their anonymity, is one thing. But surely when CNN started looking to find this guy they didn't know about that stuff, all they knew was he'd made that meme (which wasn't in remotely the same league as the other quotes that been reported). I'm just not sure what was their purpose when they made to track down the creator of that meme.
The other issue is once you know someone is posting really vile stuff anonymously, do you do what CNN did at that point and persuade them to stop doing so? I'm thinking that's a different question, and I think what they did in that respect is defensible. somewhat depending on how 'public' his comments were. It's just that why were they bothering to make such efforts to look into his behaviour in the first place?
I also don't actually agree that someone could post stuff like that and not be racist. Posting comments like that publicly, in a way that could influence others or cause pain to the targetted group, is a racist thing to do, ergo someone who does that is by definition a racist. Unless they are outright mentally unwell and really don't know what they are doing. In fact I'm starting to think that the 'just trolling' defence has become a preferred cover story. As far as I can see that's a bit of a distinctive characteristic of the 'alt right'.

Say hello to your fellow travelers, Trumpsters. Buncha swell guys, huh?
I haven't read all 15 pages, but did anyone else immediately think of Gerald Brovlofski from South Park when they read the story? Dude thinks it's funny to troll online but once he's caught, he gets all scared and apologetic. I bet he even puts on music and sips wine when he trolls late at night.
I think CNN's statement (his name will be kept secret as long as he sticks to his word) was out of line, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that the president of the United States retweeted a dumb meme which "attacks" the press. With all the shit currently going on, this was terrible judgement. It's one thing if a private citizen does it; it's a completely different thing if the president does it. Then again, I'd say pretty much everything Mr. Orange tweets is in poor taste and awful judgement. Just another tarnish on office he holds.
And this racist asshole was spewing his nonsense on a public forum. He should expect to be outed.
No he shouldn't, but I respect your authoritarian bent. Watching the left become more illiberal every day is just one of the many glorious results of last year's election.

You didn't quote my whole post! How can I attempt to craft an argument if you won't even factor in my last two sentences? I legitimately want to know if you think the parts you cut out were poorly thought out ramblings.

CNN set out to find the origin of the meme because Trump used it. It might have been something original cooked up just for him. When they found the origin they found a vile troll & decided to investigate further, ask the guy about it in real life. The rest unfolded from there.
Let's face it- it's a lot more fashionable to be an asshole on the internet than in real life & some people really get off wearing an asshole persona from the security of their keyboard. So Manly.

Even our resident sensimillia farmer jhnhhnthrrtj feigns sympathy for multi billion dollar media conglomerates. It's happening!
The left's metamorphosis in to humorless grumps is in it's final stage.
he is a russian here to fuck with you.
