They didn't want to cause major traffic wrecks as folks tried to stand up for the national anthem while driving and, um, standing up and watching TV while driving because standing up while watching TV while driving could be dangerous. Hold on, I know this explanation will work, just need a few tweaks.

Okay, they were worried that the fatties watching their station would attempt to stand up from their recliners and spill their chip bags and have heart attacks from the stress of being vertical.

Viewers would start calling the station to find out when the damn ballgame was finally going to start.

It takes a special kind of stupid to believe CNN thought the national anthem would offend viewers. The CNN explanation is a thousand-fold more rational. Many do consider playing only part of the anthem to be disrespectful. It is easy to see how an over-eager staffer thought they needed a disclaimer before such potential disrespect.

The warning was the result of a mistake by an employee, a CNN spokesman told The Daily Caller. It stemmed from the employee’s unfortunate interpretation of a company policy which, respectfully, only allows “The Star-Spangled Banner” to be played in its glorious entirety.

Thus, the warning wasn’t about the substance of the national anthem. It was about the fact that the video contained only part of the song.

So I guess someone followed the instruction to the letter, but wasn't good at communicating the reason.

I have played in several marching and concert bands and whenever we played the Star Spangled Banner, even in practice, we NEVER stopped. I was taught that it was disrespectful to end abruptly or not finish playing it in its entirety. ...

And so does the U.S. Army, according to a reply, citing "AR 600-12". (It appears this was consolidated into regulation 600-25 now.)

NPR ran some story I heard in the last day or two on how they won't even use the word "Redskins" as per the NFL team unless it is related to a story based on a controversy about it.

The whole country has gotten so PC about things in general that way it's pathetic.
