CNR Slot

How does one make use of a CNR slot? For a modem specifically. I have aquired a used MSI KT7-266 Pro with a CNR slot. There's a BIOS setting to enable an on board modem (i think). But what goes in the slot? Is it just a small card to provide an interface for the phone line? Where does one get the CNR card? I can't find anything like that on Price Grabber.

here's a little more info on them. Basically, it's an extra slot that can be used to install a modem/network/audio card without using up a PCI slot. It's kind of like being able to add an 'onboard' part to the system.

Where does one get the CNR card? I can't find anything like that on Price Grabber

Hi, Your assumptions are pretty close. The CNR card is only part of the Modem. The rest is on the motherboard and is about the same as any other WIN MODEM except for the CNR. The CNR is what Ma Bell used to call a DAA (Data Access Unit) that was hung on the wall. It has the Ring Indicator, Line Relay and a few other minor circuits. Government made them quit using them many years ago, so now our modems are complete units. There are two cards. Don't remember the desigination of the other one. One is "right handed" and the other is "left". Only matters as which back slot is used by the card and then only if the socket is on the extreme corner of the Mother Board. Wrong one can't be used as there is no way to get the Tel Line cord connected. Hope this helps a little, Jim

Hi again, Found my spare card. It's ARM. It uses the slot to the left of the connector and will not work if the connector is on the corner of the MB. CNR uses the slot to the right of the connector. Jim
