You know what's really sad, that being Christian these days is considered worse than being gay. It just comes to show just how full of sin and hatred this world is. The fact that I'll probably get flamed for this just proves my point.

Yes, chistians are losing the war on religion. Look at the recent supreme court decision allowing prayer at government functions.....I'm so glad the athiests won that one...

Oh wait, the majority of the US is still christians and the supreme court sided with christains....

It sucks to be a christian about as much as it sucks to be a white male born into a middle/upper class family.

I had someone ask me if I was "saved".

I said... "Well... I do have a 401K."

He didn't say anything else.

Christians are not happy. Christians are miserable because they believe an invisible man in the sky thinks they're giant pieces of shit and will burn them in hell for all eternity if they step out of line. They're looking for fellow Christians because misery loves company.

Are you a Muuuuslim?

hehe...thats messed up. I never thought to think that someone with a sh1t eating grin on their face must be a Christian. Like they are too dumb to know any better. This smiley must be a Christian. I can usually tell when someone is a Mormon, so to that person maybe they see a similar quality in Christians. Christians is such a general term though. Catholics are Christians, and yet personality wise I wouldn't liken them to Mormons, Baptists, etc.

Anyways, I think the guy just wanted to be friendly with you, and thought you had religion in common. A few years ago this coworker came up to me when I was smoking outside and commenting on how she was surprised to see someone smoking at the company, and this and that about smoking. I took it like she was preaching and I kinda told her to f off, no cursing or anything, but let her know I didn't care what she thought. Turned out she was just trying to meet people since she was new. We're cool now, but man, I wish I could have that moment back. She could literally be the nicest person in the world. Anyways, the guy may have been shocked to be wrong about your religion, he probably was trying to be friends. No need to be offended.

Well, of course being Christian is worse than being gay. Look at your attitude of how great Christianity should be, and how upset you are that not everyone sees your way. There's the whole fisherman thing that gets people to push their Christianity on others.

I don't want to hear it. I've given Christianity a try before, and I didn't like it. Catholicism, too. But every few months, someone will ring my doorbell to sell me something I'm not interested in. I've never had a gay person try to convince me that I should be gay to save my soul.

Besides, being gay isn't a choice, there is no good or bad about it; it just is.

Maybe if you kept it to yourself nobody would give a fuck. :sneaky:

Nobody has ever asked me if I believe in god in real life. I've had conversations with friends about religion but never with a casual acquaintance or a co-worker. It's really none of their fucking business what I believe quite frankly and I consider it rude to ask.

Just to see if you'd notice. Well done, but someone beat you to it. Also, Jews say G-d to make sure they don't take his name in vein by accident, as did I. Because if that G-d exists he will FUCK YOUR SHIT RIGHT UP if you make a mistake, so I was playing it safe, you know.
That is a backward, byzantine, antiquated and mean-spirited concept of the_deity. Not taking God's name in vein has nothing to do with fear of retribution, it's just trying not to cheapen a high concept. It's not a hard and fast rule, it's an admonition and not specific in its meaning, application and interpretation, quite subjective, just something to chew on.

My concept of God is an all forgiving all merciful all-pervasiveness. To quote William Blake:

From the Divine Image

Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace. And all must love the human form,. In heathen, Turk, or Jew;. Where Mercy, Love, and Pity dwell. There God is dwelling too. - William Blake

FYI... The word you're looking for is vain. Not vein.

Vein (noun):

1) Any of the tubes forming part of the blood circulation system of the body, carrying in most cases oxygen-depleted blood toward the heart.

2) A fracture in rock containing a deposit of minerals or ore and typically having an extensive course underground.

Vain (adjective):

1 Having no real value : idle, worthless <vain pretensions>
2 Marked by futility or ineffectualness : unsuccessful, useless <vain efforts to escape>
3 archaic : foolish, silly
4 Having or showing undue or excessive pride in one's appearance or achievements : conceited
— vain·ly adverb
— vain·ness \ˈvān-nəs\ noun
— in vain
1 To no end : without success or result <her efforts were in vain>
2 In an irreverent or blasphemous manner <you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain — Deuteronomy 5:11 (Revised Standard Version)>

Nothing wrong with being Christian or gay. However, if you are Christian, then there is something wrong with being gay.

just curious,

What are Sikh dietary restrictions?

And why do Buddhists want to go to a Thai or Chinese place? Are they Buddhist like my dad? who only likes chinese food or rib eye?

Sikh are forbidden from eating meat that was ritually slaughtered.

The Buddhists at work all happen to be from China or Thailand originally. They all seem to like one of the Chinese buffets near the office, they can make their own stir fry, or eat whatever's already in the buffet (lots of different options, not typical sugar filled buffet, but has stuff like octopuses, crawfish, and chickens feet.) The Thai guy likes 2 of the nearby Thai places (there are like 5 of them within 20 min drive of the office), the other 3 are too Americanized.
Then we have "Big Bowl" which is a chain thai/chinese fusion place. It's heavily westernized as far as I can tell, but, the Chinese and Thai people at the office seem OK with it.

That said, the guy from Thailand practices a more strict form of Buddhism vs the people from China, he fasts quite a bit, or restricts his diet to only rice or vegetarian at times.

Actually I think there might be a little 'sin and hatred' involved in submitting that gay people operate in a similar manner to say, outspoken evangelicals. Sorry, but the victim card you guys love to pull doesn't convert apples to oranges. The negative outlook on christians is usually a direct result of their behavior, that whole 'cause and effect' thing. I can't say I've ever had a gay dude flame me for not being gay, or detail the anguish and torment I've got coming due to me having the audacity to see things differently than him. Never had a gay person wait outside a classroom or establishment for me to exit in order to recite pro gay literature. They've also never visited my house uninvited to deliver cultural, political or religious material, and if they had, I somehow doubt they would have become as argumentative and self-righteous as many baptists do when you refuse them.

You're welcome to have your opinion of course, but you posted neither fact nor a point. Until gay people are somehow in a position to limit and/or control the lives and rights of others, that comparison flies like a fart in church. If there is a gay analog to "pro-life" christians firebombing women's clinics or assassinating doctors who provide abortions, well I'd love to see it.

On a side note, I like the blow people's minds when they ask if I am a Christian. I can seriously tell people I am an Atheist Christian.... or Christian Atheist depending upon the order I want to use my name in there

Why is this a difficult question? Someone asks you politely, just answer them politely.

My answer is just "Nah, I dont really do religion.".

Its really not a difficult issue. Now obviously they can get a bit wierd about that but that dosnt happen often and if it does just give them "the look".

Thats because Christianity is a bit lame now.

The Jews have got the history.
The Muslims have got the fire.
The Buddhists have got the mysticism.
The Hindus have got the good food.
The New Agers have got the sex and drugs.

Christianity just seems to have a bunch of pissed off whingers that complain about everything.

Catholicism is Christianity just as Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran and so forth are all Christian. That could be why you did not like it, you may not have understood the concepts inherent in Christianity.

Could be. I am unable to accept the concept predestination or an omniscient power. Both came up and I was told that those are fundamental elements of their faith, and are what drove me away from multiple churches.

However, a Catholic mass has very different rituals when compared to any of the protestant Sunday ceremonies that I've been to.
