Right before i left for work I was talking to him seriously about buying his box of cereal, and I was like " I want you to think about this before you accept my money" ( i was offering him $50) and I just left, I come home and my whole family bombards me asking why i need his cereal so badly, and I was laughing at all the conclusions they had came to.

This is the ONLY plausible solution I can think of.

Othewise, it simply makes no sense whatsoever.

Also, platinummike, he handed me 2 $100 bills that are real and walked away. I am sure you wouldn't let your brother hold the cereal and the $50...

it is the same. He's been there for 11 yrs and knew you wouldnt do it on the spot. Ya he probably took a chance but he had a general idea of the kinda person you are and went ahead thought you would be so paranoid about it. Just like I know my bro and i know what i can and cannot get by him.No offense man, but look here you even came to ATOT to ask for suggestions.

Either he's about to quit and he's doing something sorta off the wall, or they're playing some kind of weird team building game.

I wonder if we work at the same company. PM me the name?

maybe he is looking for some true friends. $200 is cheap to find out if you are just another money hungry heartless just some guy he works with. a true friend will offer to buy him the water bottle for free. the sharpie guy obvious lost him as a friend.

Your HR person would immediately contact the stated employee, at least any decent HR person would.

And if this isn't shens, the sharpie guy is the smartest guy ever, who the hell would want to be friends with a guy who is giving over $300 for a sharpie and a watter bottle?

"Hi this is my new friend Bill, he's a nut case but thanks to him, I'm buying us drinks all night and then Bill might even offer me $500 for the empty bottles"

Why? He's not doing anything against the rules, nobody's complained. It's his supervisor's job to step in and find out if he's okay at this point, unless something happens to obviously indicate a mental problem.

Do you know how overworked, underpaid, stressed out, and just plain un-caring most basic HR staffers are? Didn't think so She probably thought HE was the nutcase, calling to ask a question like this, heh.

actually, she is a friend not just an "HR lady" that i talk to normally. I asked for her opinion and if this violates any company rules and she said no basically and to take it.

UPDATE:

He came in this morning on time and happy as can be. I just had a chance to talk to him and he brought up the subject. He said he would tell me what is going on later. I am impartial to the guy, he is just acting wierd. I did not sell the water bottle and it was still here this morning

He seems to really have no recollection of it. He gave me a look like "wtf?" when I asked if i could get that $200 of him for the water bottle

He is typically really tight with his money and doesn't do wierd stuff like this. Given, i am at the work place and it seems kind of fishy. So i have this water bottle and i need to decide (according to him) to sell it to him for $200 by the end of the day. Would you do it at a workplace? Does it seem fishy? what would you do?

p.s. His GF just got her car stolen and supposedly he did this with another co-worker for a sharpie and the co-worker took the $100. What the hell?!

Do you guys work at the DoD?

Bartender replies, "Five cents". Guy thinks, "Wow, that's really cheap, must be some sort of special promotion they're having". Guy asks, "Well how about that bottle of Grey Goose"? Bartender says, "Five cents, in fact anything you want is only five cents tonight". Guy goes, "Oh wow, this is some crazy promption you guys are having. Are you the owner of this bar? How can you afford to be selling everything for only a nickle?" Bartender replies, "Nah, I'm not the owner. He's at my house screwing my wife, so I'm here screwing him".

Around here, if every beer was 5 cents everyone would still be drinking Bud Light. It's a sad fact.

It seems to have that same unidentifiable addictive quality as Diet Coke...

And KFC...didn't you know the Colonel puts an addictive chemical in it that makes you crave it fortnightly? I always hated the Colonel with his wee beady eyes...

Sounds like he might be on some kind of medication and maybe didn't take it the day previously. Personal mental history type stuff going on possibly, and he doesn't want to talk about it.
