I'll offer a differing opinion. I played COD :AW for a couple hours last night, and it's probably the most fundamentally different and interesting COD game I've ever played. As in, they actually made some pretty controversial changes to the basic movement system and abilities. It reminds me a lot of Crysis 2 multiplayer. In fact I think the whole "exo-skeleton" concept in the game is heavily inspired by the Nanosuit in Crysis. I keep expecting to hear a voice saying MAXIMUM SPEED. Or, when I jump 20 feet into the air, a voice saying MAXIMUM STRENGTH.
There's a wealth of different game modes too. The mode I thought was the most unique was "Uplink", where there's a ball inside of the map, and you have to carry the ball and throw it into the other team's goal. Basically, it's basketball. You even get extra points for "dunking" it.
The PC port is great, it has every option you would expect from a proper PC port and then some. Texture resolution, AAA, FPS cap, SSAO/HBAO, FOV, a whole bunch of stuff related to shadows/lighting, and even some more exotic options that allow you to choose whether to pre-load certain graphical elements or to have them stream in during gameplay.
My only complaint is that there appears to be some optimization issues on my rig, the game runs poorly at times. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now as other people are saying it runs great on their rigs. So it's a mixed bag. Perhaps fixable with a patch or a driver update.
Overall I'm kind of impressed, and this is coming from someone who enjoys CoD every now and then fairly casually but doesn't take the franchise too seriously otherwise. If you're like me and you were kind of sitting on the fence about this one, I'd recommend checking it out.
