COD: Black Ops Terrible PC Performance

I've spent hours reading threads on tweaking and troubleshooting. I'm really just tired of it. Treyarch needs to fix the game. It's not the customers responsibility to fix their broken game. And JD_2020 is a useless community manager. When's the last time he even released some useful information?

Ditto. Getting sick of Ctrl+Alt+Del task manager kills. I honestly think this is because of porting from XBOX/PS3 to PC. So much less emphasis placed on the PC gamer, not as much money to be made.

The funny thing is that they promised the community a "true" PC release (dedicated servers, lean, blah, blah, blah), but what we've gotten instead is one of the worst QA'd releases of recent years.

Now that it's been about a month since the game was released, and patches have gone out, I wanted to check in with some of you guys about the performance.

The game is certainly playable for me, however I still get less than ideal frame rates. They are good sometimes, but not consistent.

I get 60fps with nobody around, 40-50 during medium action, and 30 during heavy action. I'm running at 1920x1200 native res with a config file tweaked to turn off all eye candy for the sake of performance. AA and AF are off. Texture quality is Normal with Bilinear filtering. Ragdoll effects off.

Based on the fact that I have a lot of the advanced graphics features turned off, I'd say the CPU is the bottleneck here, but I want to hear from the community as well.

I have:

Q6600
ASUS P5N32-E SLI mobo
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 with arctic silver thermal paste
eVga GTX 260
4GB DDR2 533 RAM in dual channel mode.
Raptor 10kRPM drive.
Win7 Pro x64

Hardware is running at stock.

I just wanted to mention I have ZERO lag playing with no "sync every frame" maxed out at 1080p... and I live in the country and only can get a 1.5 Mbit DSL and I have no lag

All these issues puzzle me.

what puzzles me is that this is what the 4th time COD has been on the same damn engine and they can't figure it out? by now, they should be releasing nearly problem free games. it's been getting worse since MW1 and it shouldn't be like this.

IDK Big. Not to rub it in, but I've also had zero issues since the first update. However, i did do a fresh OS install shortly after the game release. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. My specs are nothing great, a Phenom II 965 with a HD4890 and 8gb of ram. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Incorrect. While it may look like everyone is having trouble, in reality very few people are having problems now. Originally the problems were quite widespread, at this point it looks like 95% of people have no problems at all. Its just that only the people having trouble post about it

lol, how do you know the other people aren't still having issues and just stopped posting about or gave up until they received a fix?

I had to disable shadows to fix my issues. My guess it has something to do with the shader models and processes used by some video card solutions.

u guys that have nvidia, try this.
uninstall the nvidia 3d vision drivers and see if it helps w/ the stuttering
i think it helps a bit.

Well lets see.. Almost nobody copmlains in game anymore. And most of the people on the steam forum/CoD forum say the problem has pretty much gone away. So... that leads me to believe the problem has mostly been resolved

exactly. people have already voiced their complaints, it doesn't do any good until the next patch and then people can start complaining all over again.

Hmm. Well I guess I spoke too soon then. From everybody I've talked to the issues seem to be gone. It sucks that there are still people having problems

Personal experience. Like I just said, I must have spoken too soon. The 30 or so guys I play with consistently (most of which were having huge problems earlier..) have said that basically everything is fine now. I guess there must still be a bunch of people that I didnt realize were still having trouble

fuck, disabling shadows also fixed it for me. wtf?
same engine the last 4 COD games and why is shadow such a problem now???
mindboggling... i have a fairly new video card (GTX 460).

The problems have mostly been resolved for me now. There is still the occasional stutter, and the frame rate still isn't as good as it probably should be, but at least I can play it now.

i've tried a bunch of the "fixes" but none have worked for me. Some levels in SP will play fine for a bit then start to get the stutter every so many seconds.

same with some MP levels, but the one jungle level is consistently terrible.

My system is more than fine for playing this game and I have no problems with other games either.

i'm guessing you tried disabling shadows? is your vsync on or off?
