Rant -

I paid 60 dollars for the game with the OPTION of buying DLC.

Well that is total bull because even after paying for the first 3-4 DLC's I am forced to buy the 5th so I can still find matches on the playlists that use the previous DLC's. I should of known something was up when I was continuously playing against noob's on the original maps and I could no longer get on a list to play the maps I previous paid for. Then low and behold found out that a 5th map pack came out. So all my friends of course shelled out money for it with less than a month away for a new game....Screw them!

This game is a total f'ing rip off. At least with BF3 you can still find a good amount of people on maps that didn't include the 150 dollars of expansions.

Black Ops 2 DLC is a scam. Activision is a scam.

Might be obvious but its still fecking ridiculous. Thats why I didnt buy Borderlands 2 when it was on sale for 10 bucks. Because all the DLC was still $130 and im pretty sure you need some of them to reach the level cap. A LA Fallout New Vegas which forced you to buy all 5 DLC if you wanted to hit max level. Or Battlefield 3 (and im sure BF4) will come out with 100$ worth of map/gun packs that everybody will buy. This model of gaming needs to go.

No longer are you paying $60 for a full game, you are paying $60 for an entry fee with the option to buy the full game for another $100 or so dollars.

I don't understand why this is acceptable. All rich people who pay this shit need to get out of video gaming and go back to wine and cheese tasting or something.

With Borderlands 2 the only DLC you need if you want to reach the max level cap is the Season Pass ($20 MSRP) and the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 ($5 MSRP). There are 2 characters that are separate DLC if you want to play as one of them and the rest of the DLC is just cosmetic costumes.

The season pass + original BL2 was available for ~$13 from greenmangaming recently. Of course that's not currently available, but there have been lots of sales on BL2 stuff specifically.

Fallout NV had an ultimate edition a year after release containing all DLC. Can get it below <$10 in sales. You could also just get a mod.
BF3 still has a ton of servers with any combination of maps you want to play, and the vanilla guns are still the most used by far. Premium more than doubled the content of the base game, I don't see an issue with DLC like that, it delivers the same content as expansion packs of old.
So lets not generalize, shall we?

I think it's mostly kids using their parents credit cards, or single neckbeards with too much disposable income.

One of the many reasons I don't play multiplayer games.

Yeah, I haven't bought DLC for a shooter since Halo 3 (I bought a couple of songs on Rock Band 2). It's ridiculous to expect people to buy a $60 game, then pay another $2-3 per map over and over. You should have just gone of the map pass, of course.

Halo 4 recently made it so their regular Team Slayer REQUIRED one of the DLC packs, and I haven't played it since. The game went from having something like 2,000 people in Team Slayer to about 700-800.

I remember the good old days when games like UT regularly put out free map packs. If there was something extra to buy, it was a hefty expansion, not a clothing item or two guns and a hat.

The thing that really gets me, is games that talk about their upcoming DLC before they are even released. The developer has a vision for the game, but in order to get that full vision, you just have to keep spending money.

I really liked COD1 and COD2. COD1 multiplayer was a blast. I couldn't ever get into the later ones when they started going to consoles. It is amazing how much they can milk out of fans now with their DLC packs. I remember full expansions coming out that came with an entirely new campaign, new guns, tons of new levels, and such. I miss real expansions haha. A sequel typically meant a new engine or major upgrades, now a sequel is what an expansion would have been 10 years ago.

I only play BF3/4 because COD is not challenging enough and max I will pay is $100 for game and DLC and I only do that for one game which is BF... all other games I wait for Steam Sale - Also I taste wine and cheese WHILE I'm pwning people in BF3/4!

<----- has never bought COD DLC.

Wait, so not buying the last DLC means it screws up the other DLC you've purchased?

Who cares about "levels caps."

Borderlands2 is worth buying because it's a great, complete game with awesome characters, voice acting, interesting story, and fun combat.

I don't even remember or care what level I was or what color my weapons were when I beat it. It was worth every penny. I swear some people approach games like spreadsheets or something.

Sounds like they have people in 2 pools for matchmaking

Pool 1: Those who own the base game and none or some of the DLC (original maps only)
Pool 2: Those who own the base game and all DLC (original + DLC maps)

This is another reason why I hate most DLC. It splits the multiplayer community.

The only kind of DLC I like is Ballad of Gay Tony/Undead Nightmare style, where its a separate game and does not impact the original game AT ALL.

Grrr.

99% of people who play RPGs/ARPGs

You do realize Borderlands is basically Diablo as an FPS, right? You are meant to grind and level up and make your character as badass as possible. It sounds like you approached it as a linear shooter a la Half Life or something, which is missing the point of what an ARPG experience is supposed to be about.

I game to have fun -- I thought that was the point(?) Leveling up and the constant weapon turnover was the least interesting part of the game to me.

I approached it like I approached S.T.A.L.K.E.R.; an open-world, mission-based game with an interesting environment and fun combat mechanics. I increased the level of my equipment as necessary to deal with whatever was next.

I played co-op with a friend who was obsessed with farming and playing the numbers game. It wasn't fun playing with him...and he kept commenting about how I wasn't leveling high enough. When I beat the game I think I was only level 33 or something, and he acted like I was an idiot or something because I did it that way.

I'll leave the grinding and number crunching to the accountants and pure RPG players, I suppose. I'm just glad the makers of Borderlands weren't so narrow-minded to make a game that doesn't stand well on its own for people who don't care about that stuff. There's really a whole lot more to BL than that.

Different strokes, right?

Maybe if you're playing co-op or trying to impress your friends.

I play BL2 to have fun, and have done almost no grinding other than killing Saturn a few extra times.

I understand that the "optimize your character" game is there in BL2, but it's completely optional.

I wait 2 years until all the DLC is out and buy the entire game with all the DLC for under 30 bucks. If they are going to purposely get greedy, I'm going to purposely get cheap. They do it because you pay and to be greedy is human nature.

Yes! Because you can't find anyone on the playlists who didn't buy all 5 DLC's or season pass. You are forced to play on noob servers with the old maps.

That's why you play decent fps where people make their own maps and all you do is download them from the server you play on or ahead of time.

Also there's level uncapper mods, which lets you go all the way up to umm 255?? Good luck with that! LOL
