COD4, PC or PS3 version?

Man, the whole purpose of me getting the PS3 was to avoid a computer upgrade for one more generation and still play all the cool titles (UT3, COD4, etc..)

but hell, after I saw the trailer for COD4 for PC, it blew me away. It's obviously better than the PS3 version, but from the trailer, I really couldn't tell by how much.


So now, I have a decision to make. Should I upgrade my PC (8800 GTS, c2d, 2 gig ddr2, mobo option..a bit futureproof for alan wake and crysis..or just get 8800 GTS, or get 8800GTS + 939 opteron upgrade), or just get COD4 for PS3, and wait for the PC upgrade until crysis arrives?

Well one other thing is that COD4 for PS3 will not have multiplayer... Renting it out is another option. The previous COD's on PC, I've never played multiplayer on it, since I mainly play BF2/2142/cs: s/dod: s multiplayer.
EDIT: i'm wrong. it will have multiplayer...friend misinformed me that multiplayer will be 360 exclusive, but only the beta will be exclusive. yays.


What will be the best cost/performance option based on what I have now, etc..

It's a bit different from before..ps3 is now raised in its own shelf above the reciever for better air clearance/airflow.

and DAMN IT.. after looking @ the trailers..they implemented HALO SHIELD WTF NOOO!!!!!

BRING BACK THE GLORY THAT WAS COD1!! COD1 had it where you relied on your AI teammates and they relied on you!!! it was push push push..teammates pushed you. it was awesome!!! Also, if you get hit, your hp goes down, and won't be up until the next chapter (talking about the hardest difficulty). I HATE HATE HATE halo shield for COD series. It was awesome for Halo and GoW, but SUCKS for COD series. COD2 was the worse FPS game ever due to that, and had super crappy teammates and AI.

This had better be good AI. I hated COD2 and its stupid repetitiveness of killing really dumb nazis, and you get a fresh supply of teammates all the time.

SIGH, and these are the original developers of COD1!!! what have they done!!?!?!? goddamn it!!! NOOO!!!!

What makes you think Call of Duty 4 for PS3 will not have multiplayer? Of course it will. Online and offline.

ok, my friend is a retard. he told me that at E3, that the multiplayer will be 360 exclusive. upon further research, I see that only the BETA is exclusive. time to kick someone's ass now. lol

but man, I just saw that other video linked there, and that's pretty nice.

and I have a samsung 40in 1080p LCDTV that I use as my computer monitor, PS3 monitor, and TV, lol .

COD4 60fps on the PS3. At least some devs stopped getting lazy creating the PS3 versions.

Well, the PC version will likely be cheaper out of the gate. Though I'd probably wait even longer for the likely gogamer.com 48-hour madness sale when it'll probably be in the $20-30's like Supreme Commander was about a month after release.

But I'm a cheapskate even when it saves me five bucks.

I was about to say go for PS3 since it'll look roughly the same, and since it's arcade-ish action, might be funner that way. However, you won't have a mouse/keyboard so I'd go for PC.

Save yourself money by not spending more on the computer. Go the PS3 route, as the game will likely still look amazing.

I'd say go for the PC, just because mouse/kb is a million times superior to dual analog. If youre going to upgrade for crysis, you might as well kill two birds with one stone. All you really need is a new vid card to really get the most out of it, although Im sure the 7900 will do the job (just not as well as the PS3)

I'm just hoping they actually optimize the game for PC this time....COD2 ran like dog sh*t on PC because they just didnt bother making it run fast, spending all their time on the 360 in order to get it ready for launch.

Its great that the PS3 works on a big screen TV and all that, I just wouldnt want to play an FPS as great as COD with a controller. The PS3 has USB ports, its too bad they cant let you use them for single player at least (MP would be unfair).

Just ask yourself whats more important to you...how it looks (get it for PS3) or how it plays (get it for PC). Or if youre willing to spend the money, you can have it all by upgrading your PC. Its really that simple.

I already ordered the fragFX. If I hate it, i will return it, but reviews say it works really well.

That aside, I see what you mean. I guess my ultimate decision will actually come when I actually try the demos on both platforms (except, I won't upgrade my PC just yet..).

How the fragfx will perform is another thing that I have to wait for as well. I suppose this entire thread is moot until I actually try, but most of the people here play FPS's, and some look forward to this game. Due to that similarity, getting input from everyone and talking about this was informative, and I hope will help others (in a similar situation as i am in) make better decisions based on their preference.

Its where you have a regenerating health meter. So if you are about to die, you just go hide and you slowly heal back to full health.

Gears of War has this as well. Except GoW and Halo it works. It really doesn't make sense in CoD for its atmosphere and initial CoD1 gameplay. CoD2 is among the worse games I've ever played because of this (and horrible stupid enemy AI, even in the hardest mode, and stupid teammates that gets refilled, repetitive gameplay).

Halo shield is when your hp regenerates quickly after you haven't been hit for awhile. If you do get hit, you die if you get hit repeadedly in a short amount of time. It works and makes sense in terms of gameplay, environment, immersion for those games and those games only. CoD2 implemented it and it was absolutely horrid.
