Where'd you get it for $25?

On game completions, there's recorded instances of Doom3 completed in 90 mins, Halo3 Legendary in 3.5hrs no deaths...dunno about the others, heh. nuts.

oh and how would my rig run CoD4:

939 Venice (2.2ghz?)
8800GTS 320mb superclocked
2gb RAM.

1024x768 would be okay I guess, in FPS especially I just need to run the game smoothly at all times.

edit: after looking at Wuzup101's rig in his sig., i'm guessing i'll be alright

Only 90mins eh? Maybe I'll reinstall it and see if I can suffer through that turd.

I'd pay $100 for it. That's thousands of hours of high quality ultra realistic frag time.

Ugg. In the vein of this thread I just tried to play farcry. Ugly and terrible. Did people really think this game looked good four years ago? I had settings maxed and It looked like a cow threw up on the screen.

The environments are beautiful, but I do remember thinking that the characters all looked like they were made of plastic.

The FPS'es that come to my mind for "long" campaigns are:

Half-Life
Farcry
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Red Faction
Prey

All of them took my around 10 hours to complete, with H-L and T2 being the lengthiest I believe, especially T2 for me. But the above list isn't objective, it's just the case for me. There's only a few FPS'es with long campaigns, most of them don't last more than 6 or 7 hours, going above 8 or 9 hours is demanding a lot, your list suddenly diminishes greatly when going for that length.

cod4 was short but extremely fun 9except in a few places where enemies just seem to spawn non-stop).

i'd rather play cod4 than crysis, hl2, and many other games.

well, that was quick

That's what she said!

Haven't played the game but I pretty much saw my friend's younger brother play through several segments of it while I was hanging at his place. Sure seemed to have its fair share of 'epic' moments.

CoD4 is noticeably shorter than most FPS games. Mainly because it forces you to never sit still, which makes sense for a war game, but also negatively affects the games length.

I think that for the pace and feel of play IW was shooting for that COD4 SP is right on the mark. Sure I wanted the SP experience to go further; but my wanting that doesn't detract from the quality of game. Ratchet up the difficulty and you have another game on. I enjoyed SP but bought it for the multiplayer and would definitely pay $50 if I was faced with the purchase again. Lookin' forward to the 1.6 patch w/mappack soon.

Farcry was also tedious and looks like crap somehow. (Still can't figure out why it looks worse on max than HL2 and gets ~ 1/4 the fps).

I ran it at max AA and Anis and the environments looked like they were tore out of a magazine without folding along the edges first. It didn't even look 3d, it looked like it was 2d sprites pasted at different depths to fake 3d. I was comparing it to Crysis demo on medium... which is basically farcry cut and pasted and made to look good. It was like Crysis' retarded cousin who got hit by a bus and set on fire then put out with salt and thumbtacks.

Or a 4X game. I have a decent system, I can run most shooters on high settings. Yet I still play Civilization 4 on single and multiplayer more than anything else. Replay value after 2.5 years makes it money well spent to me.

they spawn non stop to force you to move forward

anyway, i've had more fun playing cod4 than any game i've touched in years. the single player campaign is short, but the endless hours of online multilayer definitely make up for it.

Something might be wrong with your comp. Farcry looked good then and it still looks good today. It's definitely head-and-shoulders above the source engine. Maybe you just don't like the style that Farcry was rendered in. They went for a surreal experience with the lush tropical environment and glossy models...

I haven't even touched MP yet, but I feel COD4 was well worth the $30 I payed for it just for the single player.

I finished CoD2 in about six hours. CoD4 took about eight hours. I have since replayed CoD4.

I had never played FarCry until this week. I got it on sale for $9.99. So far I am maybe six hours into it and only about 1/4th of the way through the game it seems. The story is pretty lame but the game play is great. The AI is pretty damn good also. You can't run and gun that's for sure. I think the graphics look good at 1680x1050 with everything turned up.

I only like the CoD MP servers with realism cranked to the max. No crosshairs, no pin point shots from the hip, stuff where people actually have to think before they shoot.

or you could just watch the video walkthroughs for ultra-linear games like bioshock / COD4

Not saying Halflife was short... but expecting more than 8 hrs playtime from a FPS single player is pretty demanding. These aren't rpg's where you're content to spend 5 minutes doing nothing but running from place to place between towns and crap like that. Every encounter is scripted.

I agree; FPS games are traditionally short. It's easy to let the player waste hours in an RPG before moving on to the next part of the main story.

In a FPS there's only really the main story, so you either make a FPS of epic length (which some people would complain over) or you do a normal length FPS campaign and concentrate on making the gameplay better.

I think the right choice was made.
