Finally went out and got CoD5.

Problems started soon as i tried to start the game. I could not get it to even startup without crashing on Vista. I applied all the patches and now the game works.

I played for an hour and then went to try out Multiplayer.. and what do you know, even more problems.

I go to Find a Game, refresh list and anytime i try to connect to a server i am stuck at 'Awaiting Connection ...1', and i have to end task.

I am on a router, a Linksys WRT54G2, and have never had a problem before. I even tried port forwarding and setting up a static ip. Still i get stuck at Awaiting Connection.

So far... this game is a steaming pile of dog poo. So glad i didnt buy it and it came with my vid card or i'd be very upset.

Anyone else had a problem like this? and managed to fix it?

Your problem started as soon as you bought the game. Yay for CoD. If it makes you feel better I bought CoD4, waste of cash imo there too.

pirated copies have overall LESS problems, not more, they remove the buggy copy protection reducing crashing significantly, heck sometimes they even fix bugs in the game, like the titan quest craks, which helped make the game slightly more playable, although it still crashed all the time (every 30 mintues instead of every 2-5 minutes... 10 months after release patch 1.52 made the game playable... by 1.52 TWO windows blue causing bugsand 12 game crashes were fixed). There are exceptions though, especially with the 0-day cracks from reloaded, they never work, you need to wait for about a week for reloaded to release a fixed crack where they fix the issues they missed on their 0-day release.

Basically a lot of game companies have no respect to their customers and release buggy steaming piles of poo that are simply not ready... eventually it MIGHT be fixed, often it is never fixed and just abandoned.

PS. if it came for "free" with your video card, then you did buy it, you just got a "Free game" instead of a mail in rebate.

PS. if you experience windows blue screens there is a good chance that it is caused by the copy protection (as the peice of shit copy protection is technically a virus, which installs itself without your permission and tries to mess with the kernel). So getting a crack might alleviate your problems.

One of the reasons I moved to console gaming, it's pretty much guaranteed to work...

Although I was horribly dissappointed by the CoD: W@W beta, just bought the game but I'll probably sell it instead of playing it. CoD4 was wonderful though, can't comment on the PC bugs though.

Yeah, I ran into a similar problem when I first bought the game. I had to turn off my Windows firewall, and adjust some router settings to make the multi-player work. I think I just got the fix from codforums.com. I am at work right now so cannot provide an exact link. It is a common issue with the PC COD5, but once I fixed the issue I have had a blast playing 48 player CTF matches.

I own a 360 and PS3 as well, but prefer to play fps's on PC unless it's an exclusive. Hope you are able to enjoy this game. I also had to manually update Punkbuster for the servers to show up.

i had no problems with Titan Quest from the day it was released. I only heard that people who pirated it had problems qith it crashing and stuff.

I tried endless searching for it. Everyone either recommened 2 ports to open (which i tried to no avail, i dont believe the problem to be my router now either), or they were just talking about not being able to connect to the server that holds the profile (cant remember the name).

I can download my profile and login over half the time, and i can see all the servers right quick when i refresh. I can view the server info.. but soon as i click join game it just hangs forever at Awaiting Connection.

Never had a problem with CoD multiplayer until this one. Everywhere i search i see endless complaints from people about connection problems.

Bummer too.. i've always very much enjoyed CoD's multiplayer mayhem.

I play 4 and w@w, love both. Yes, on some servers I get awaiting connection screen that lasts forever. It is the server I am trying to connect to, I just move on to another. Sometimes I have to leave the game and start it again when that happens. When you say you applied all the patches, are you including the third patch? I see all three versions of the game still online. The 3rd patch did fix a lot of those type issues. I play over a Zyxel router, wireless on a Gateway FX lappy running Vista 64 bit. I have some issues from time to time. It is a little buggy, and I found the better the video card the better I like it. I mean I played on a 7900gs, it was OK, but the new lappy has a 8800gts and it makes a huge difference. Once the frame rates get over 40fps it smoothes right out.
I also recommend not playing the hardcore modes if you can get the game going. On hardcore servers there are bunches of spawn campers and you last for a sec and are gone. The non hardcore servers play better in my experience. Update punkbuster, I had to go to even balance and dl there manual setup program. I hope you get it going, I love it, but then a lot of people complain about it.

I enjoy COD5..haven't had a single problem on my pc. I guess I'm fortunate. I do remember though getting that awaiting connection with some servers. I just stayed away from them and it was fine. The ping times are still screwy though, just like in COD4.

I may break down and actually install one of my OEM copies, I have CoD4 and WaW for PS3, and I have CoD4 for PC as well, I really enjoy the PS3 version of 4 better (Don't kill me for saying that). I think I'd probably dig WaW alot better for PC, I didn't enjoy the multiplayer much at all on the PS3 although the graphics certainly looked better than CoD4 imo.

Any comments on the servers for WaW? I tried CoD4 multiplayer after hitting 55 on the PS3 and all I got were maps that felt WAY overloaded with people in hardcore mode spawn camping. Really turned me off after 2 or 3 nights of the same BS.

go to evenbalance.com and manually update punkbuster? It solved a lot of problems for me, crashes, DC's, etc.

The servers are hit and miss for w@w. I have to admit to running into quite a lot of servers with whinners, and a lot of unfriendly people. But, if you can catch 20 seconds to poop when it is not locked down they are really nice, but they run custom maps, which I love. Then if you can find anyone on the HOF servers (snakesandsnots house of fun) they are a great bunch, but they tolerate any bs what so ever, not even and mildly foul language. But like a lot of server owners they recently switched to gameservers because of the great deal they were running, so once the ip changed it emptied out their servers, it is a shame because they were one of the best run. There are a few bolt only servers that have big crowds, but the sniper rifle really sucks in w@w. Otherwise the WAR clan has a good server, the WAR clan are friends of mine, but their server is hardcore. Anyway give those a try.

COD W@W multiplayer works perfectly for me on my Vista x64 system (C2D 8400, 8GB RAM, Radeon HD4850). I've never had a crash, and never had any trouble connecting to a server.

I had some more time last night and i messed around with it. I manually updated PB and apparently its just 50/50 with the servers that i cannot seem to connect to.

I just had a bad string of luck when i picked 5 servers in a row i couldnt connect to. I tried a few others and they worked perfectly. Played for a few hours.

Odd why some are not available to connect to when all the game info is shown. Multiplayer is a heck of a lot of fun!

I get the same funky connection problem from time to time. I think this game authenticates differently to the master server than other games. I think when you go to multiplayer the master server authenticates your guid before you even start to play. I think that system is not perfected. For some reason it does not authenticate my guid properly every time I go to multiplayer and I have to close the game out and start it again. when it fails it causes strange stuff to happen. Oh well glad you got it sorted out and hope you get some game time in.

How does LAN work for CoD:W@W? I'd like to buy one copy and install it on my 3 PC's for LAN play occasionally.

Is it possible to change your online name or is it simply the name of your profile? I can't figure out how to change it.

Anyone up for some casual games? I enjoy bolt only and/or small maps, but would be up for anything. I play under BlueWeasel if you want to add me to your friends list.

I just started playing COD4 multiplayer heavily about 2 weeks ago. Got WAW a couple days ago, and what a change.
