People werent more responsible back then? Accidents happened, yes, but nobody WANTED to fall pregnant without the resources to support themselves. Yet that is what people do today, because they know welfare will pick up the check.
Thats just not true at all. During the great depression this country had a far higher birth rate than today, around 5 kids PER woman on average and yet families were starving. Thank the reduction to birth control, people are stupid by default and the poor even more so. Cranking out 10+ kids with or without welfare would still happen amongst the poor.
