Am I to understand that people who advocate for the right of private businesses to discriminate against certain customers they don't like are incensed that other businesses with different beliefs would dare to discriminate against other categories of customers?

I wish we could bring everyone toward a middle ground where police are neither completely vilified nor beatified.

I don't like instances such as this, where the assumption is that police officers are all bad... but I also despise the apologists who act as if police officers are saints and pretend Black Lives Matter is a terrorist organization. It's more than "a few bad apples," but you're not going to convince the police to reform by denying them coffee.

That's the head scratcher... it's this odd ethical quandary where they won't serve coffee, but would probably have the police rushing in with guns drawn in the event of a crisis, which is clearly part of the problem (especially when the subject is non-white).

And it's safe to say the majority of BLM supporters, including the ardent ones, don't think the police should go away -- what they want are police forces that don't practice systemic racism.

I'm no fan of incompetent police work to be sure, and I'm not a right winger. But maybe they'd prefer to open the shop in a place where the police really is the enemy? Where shakedowns, kidnappings, murders etc are facilitated by law enforcement? Most police officers in the US put their lives on the line to protect us every day.

If they had said "no ICE" I could at least understand it better.

Based on what exactly? They denied police coffee so harrass them? They're a registered business, you need something to go on, hunches are for movies, and abuse of authority by police is exactly why they denied them service to begin with.

I have, I did nothing wrong, the cop was just checking and I was on my way. 5 minutes out of my life, oh no.
