Coffee vs. Cigarettes vs. Alcohol

I was recently told by a coffee drinking, cigarette smoking Muslim gentlemen whom I work with that alcohol is forbidden and that he doesn't drink it. He then went on to tell me I shouldn't drink alcohol either because it's forbidden. So I asked, why is one drug acceptable when the other is not? He didn't have an answer.

Anyone care to explain?

Getting drunk is worse than a coffee or cig buzz? I'm not Muslim so I don't know. I'm just mentioning that it's really the only difference between them. Maybe it's to avoid social embarrassment or something.

all three are addictive as fuck, caffiene, alc., nicotine... i'd say overall, alcohol is the worst for you (assuming you drink everyday, like you would use nicotine/caffiene everyday) tobacco, second... caffiene's basically harmless (can be dangerous as caffiene is possible to overdose on)

funny MJ is illegal still.. and about as addictive as caffiene, but not possible to OD on..

Portugal really has adopted the best policy on drugs.. they are all legal.. they have basically no drug violence, or any crime for that matter.

all they wanna do is make money... there is a HUGE DEMAND for drugs in the US, and for some reason our government HATES IT (actually they love it, gives them lots of reason to pay themselves more/grow the government bigger)

so basically we have this huge demand for drugs in the USA, and it's illegal.... then you have places where they have HUGE SUPPLY of drugs, so of course.. supply/demand..

you end the war on drugs, make it legal in the US, what happens to cartels? they turn into real legitimate businesses.. they have everything in place already for the supply side! and now THEY PAY OUR GOVERNMENT! in taxation... not only that, but now phillip morris gets some competition! (if you didnt know, phillip morris has a game plan in action to produce commercial cannibus, oh you better believe it)

people act like the world will end if drugs were legal... newsflash, there's other parts of the world where they ALREADY ARE. or where NOBODY CARES... are there more addicts? no. addicts are gonna be addicts no matter what.. if it's legal, the only thing that changes is the violence created BECAUSE IT'S ILLEGAL.

1. No.. Just no, cartels don't move huge amounts of MJ. If prop 19 would have passed, total impact on the cartels would have been 2.3-2.6 percent. Some disagree and say 4 percent. Either way, its minor.

Hard drugs won't ever be legal, not here. It just wont happen. So no, the cartels won't ever be friendly mexicans operating the entire MJ distribution in the US.

Of the things I've tried in my life, alcohol is the one that I think would be the most difficult to give up because it seems to do the least harm and I find it the most enjoyable.

While smoking cigs, I actually feel considerably worse than when not smoking. It was not very difficult to quit. With MJ, it got boring and was not difficult to quit at all (much easier than cigs). Sugar while highly addictive, not hard to quit when my mind was put to it (example, pepsi). Coffee, have went through periods of regular usage and no usage -- I'd say not that difficult to quit but working in an office environment makes it more difficult, in the same way that hanging around smokers makes it more difficult to quit smoking.

Alcohol.. well, I've also went through periods of drinking/not drinking but never really considered it something that I would need to quit. I think if I HAD to quit drinking completely, that I'd miss it the most of all the above things with coffee being a close second.

As for it being forbidden, well ... "if you say so" would be my answer. I don't really have a problem with people being forbidden to drink due to their beliefs. Whatever. More for me!

My boss is Muslim and he drinks alcohol. He doesn't smoke cigarettes or eat pig though.

-caffeine can sometimes make people aggressive
-alcohol makes a lot of people aggressive and violent and they should all be killed
