Do folks still make coffee on the stove with a coffee kettle?

My electric coffee maker died and I was thinking about just getting a coffee kettle. Are these still made?

They sure do. Check out walmart or a larger store like that, or online.

My mom still uses a coffee kettle thats older than I am, and loves it. My dad's thermos may be the same age, maybe they got them as wedding gifts! haha.

I think you should check out a French Press. This is how I've done coffee for years. You can pick up a high quality one for around 30 bucks, and the taste of the coffee is far better, much less acidic.

In the time it took me to post that, three people suggested the french press. That alone should tell ya its the way to go.

We have teh Bunn coffemakers, but in our camping stuff we have an old percolator that I've dug out a couple of times during power outages. The coffee isn't quite as good, and you usually end up with a few grounds in the cup, but it's still worlds better than NO coffee...

Another vote for the french press. Had a Cuisanart Grind & Brew that took a dive and made the switch. Now I'm a convert. Having precise control of the coarseness of the grind and the water temperature does make a difference and produces a better tasting coffee.

I don't make coffee at home every day. I would rather not have the appliance sitting around. I can put one of these in a cabinet.

At home I use a traditional counter-top coffee maker. It makes pretty average joe coffee. At school I have a single use, pod type maker which is really convenient, but the french press sounds just as easy. I might try it out.

I  percolating coffee makers.

they always make me think of Ella Fitzgerald singing "Steam Heat."

French press has more sediment so it isn't for everyone. Pour over brewing is another option.

French press is good, but you should have a good burr grinder (or make sure the coffee shop people do it right) and not one of the blade grinders or else you'll get weak coffee with sediment.

You're probably thinking of a percolator, but apparently that scalds the coffee and kills the flavours.

Cold brew for the win: lowest acidity, minimal claptrap and effort, and one batch keeps for weeks chilled or longer frozen.

advatage over french press is paper filter...filters out the artery hardening goodness.
i don't like french press, they always seem to loose heat too quickly

French Press is actually considered to be a prestigious method of coffee making whereas Drip brewers like Bunn, Cuisinarts are a time and effort saver. If you have time to brew and control how your coffee tastes, go for a French Press or a Pour over. The coffee will definitely taste better, once you know these perfectly!

I just use a drip machine, works fine for me, and fairly easy to use. Put filter, put coffee, put water, turn on, step away, come back when it's done. Might try french press some day though since everyone raves about that.

I also have a burr grinder so if I plan to brew right away I use that to ground from beans then put those grounds in the drip machine, but when I set it up the night before to make coffee for work I just use preground coffee like Maxwell House or something.

O.P. has not been seen since 2010. I doubt he cares anymore.
