Strategically sound, but kind of a bummer.
Are you being sarcastic?

This new 8C/16T i9 will probably be Intel's last real hurrah for a while. Delaying it to early next year and competing with the imminent 7nm Zen2 Ryzen 3xxx is suicidal.

If anyone can wait for this, I would imagine any non-fanatic waiting slightly longer to see what the other camp will be offering soon after.

I have a hard time believing this rumor.

Intel may have delayed the Coffee Lake Refresh launch until next year. Also suggests there might be a locked i9 desktop part coming. It would make sense if they are really that capacity constrained and/or they know any 10th gen desktop parts aren't coming until 2020 so they want to get things aligned to a year.

So use a 14nm part to compete against a likely 12 core 7nm part? I don't think so, Intel need to release this now and just accept that 2019 will be a rough year for them and hit back in 2020.

Another confirmation all 300series boards are supported with 9th generation. As for the launch I've heard Q4 is accurate for the first few SKUs not Q3.

edit:

https://www.hkepc.com/17081/

October launch for three SKUs: 9900k, 9700k, 9600k.

That actually looks like an Intel slide, so probably the best indicator yet (unless it was faked), plus Intel launched 8700K in October last year, so October is a sensible launch window for the new 8 cores. Hopefully they have more stock this time.

And we have a forth Roadmap. I know that it's wccftech, but this one looks the most accurate:

No Icelake till at least October 2019

This one is real because Intel just sent me a DMCA takedown notice for tweeting this out, ROFL.

Why do Intel even bother after its in the wild? There are probably literally thousands of copies of this now. It's like trying to piss on a wildfire to put it out.

Anyway, that road map is what I expected. Wouldn't surprise me if 10nm gets pushed back again into early 2020. They really are having a difficult time with it.

Idk why they bother but it's one way to confirm which is real or not lol. Which is great for us, Ty Intel.

I don't really care what process is used as long as the chip is an improvement.
This
I don't care about nm if the chip itself is better. In fact Intel does excellent work with design/freq/power with 14nm.
It looks like if there are 2 teams there 1 team 14nm which has excellent production/process engineers does better and better and on the contrary worse development engineers for 10nm.
They might jump straight to 7nm this way

As long as they can get more out of it then great, but we used to have redesigns and tweaks that increased IPC every year. The improvements now are apparently only in power usage and number of cores, because we still have Skylake cores.

I think it's been a very long time since we had redesigns or even tweaks that increased IPC every year...

Basically every year until Skylake they changed the design slightly. I just find it curious that they don't anymore.

I bet only the 8 core parts are soldered.

"It is unconfirmed whether Core i5-9600K is also using STIM (Solder Thermal Interface Material) because the files we have only refer to 8-core parts."
