You can buy it from some places, relic wont update the servers until the 9th (the official release date) though so no multiplayer till then, still the 3 new campaigns are playable.

For anyone who hasent heard of it theres a thread here with a ton of info on it. Its basically a small expansion pack, includes some new units and 3 new campaigns with some new multiplayer modes as well. The new units are supposed to be alternatives to certain units. The PE now get a tank with stukkas attached to it, they are weak in team games so this should help them out. Also if youve never played CoH before this stand alone expansion unlocks all 4 factions for multiplayer, so only thing you would miss is the original CoH campaign and the two Opposing Fronts campaigns.

Anyways play.com has it in stock, i was gonna get it through steam but itll likely cost more and its not availble for purchase yet. I can always register a physical copy of it with steam in the future anyways if i wanted to tie it to steam.

Wonder how much it'll be on Steam. Amazon and Buy.com have had it available for pre-order for quite some time, for around $27-$28.

Ugh, I'm up to about half a dozen DVD cases between the various Relic RTS games and their expansions. Maybe more...as I recall, Homeworld was a Relic franchise too.

Ugh, I'm going to have to reinstall all my COH games now. I know Opp' fronts was stand alone but you couldn't play as all the factions in multiplayer.

Am I asking much for a new game? Likely.

Let's see now...

- I entered the CD keys once each for DoW and DoW: Winter Assault when I got Dawn of War Gold
- I entered the CD key for DoW: Dark Crusade when I bought that standalone expansion, then had to enter the CD keys for DoW and Winter Assault again, to get those factions working in DC multiplayer
- I entered the CD key for DoW: Soulstorm when I got that standalone expansion, then I'm pretty sure I had to entered the CD keys for all three previous games once again to have those factions available for Soulstorm multiplayer

Relic :|!!! You wouldn't think it'd be hard to detect that I had all of those various expansions installed and validated already.

Fair point. While we're complaining, the original game and its expansion were quite buggy and the patch download layout on Relic's page was curious, to say the least. However, I forgave the bugs in view of the game itself.

I have to say I am deeply saddened that this game does not have a British Campaign.

Though I cannot complain too much. My Grandfather was one of the soldiers who paradropped to assault the bridges in Arnhem and they included that in the previous installment

Any reviews out for this yet? 1 week and 16 hours for our Steam unlock (UK)

Which battalion was he in? Did he make it back over the river or was the jump his end to the war?

Well, he made it back to talk to me but details were never discussed.

I fear like many men who fought in such battles, he did not speak much of it. I obtained the information through him for a History project when I was 10 or 11 so all I got to know was he was paradropped into Arnhem. Other than that, I am at a loss. I saw a documentary not too long ago on some of the Arnhem drops and it looked brutal.. even moreso than war usually does. I could not blame him for not mentioning any more than he did.

I have recently found a link to a system by which I may be able to obtain his full service history. He was with the Durham Light Infantry although which Batallion, I could not say something like the 7th or 9th but this project was done abour 12-13 years ago so my memory is sketchy too

He possessed a few medals which he showed me when I was younger. By the time it came to him passing on, we were unable to locate his medals. Once again details escape me.

Anyway, this is quite a bit off topic....

I will probably pick this up later when Steam has dropped its price to reasonable and when I am once again employed and earning some money!

I saw some of this game's gameplay on youtube, and before I was thinking "meh," but now I am full blown excited for this game. The units, the gameplay modes, everything looks very exciting. New maps are always exciting as well, and hey, it's Company of Heroes, what you going to do?

Also, the British do get some new units as well, but yeah, skimping on them kinda irritated me as well. I wonder Relic is planning after this little tiff.

I wonder why we still haven't seen a Pacific, Eastern Europe, or North Africa campaign. Seems like there are plenty of places the franchise could expand to.

Because Relic is probably making a Coh 2 with a russian faction.

A Pacific theater would be awesome to play with the British with Chindits bandits and relying on some Chinese militia and high trained British spec ops.

Nope they made it so you can play all the factions in multiplayer with just Tales of Valor. The only thing they said you would be missing by not installing the other two was single player. missions from those games.

from what i can tell: at the beginning of the war the Durham was a territorial unit that a lot of people entered when first mustering up. most eventually transfered to other units. There were elements of the DLI at Arnhem, but the were part of the ground contingent with 30 corp.

Just purchased on Steam ... now begins the long wait until its D/L'ed. I love basebuilding, but I remain loyal to the game even if ToV is different in that respect.

Just finished Downloading it last night on Steam. Do awhile at start they it finished pretty quickly.

Did not have time to really play it but I loaded up an assault map to see how that worked. It allows for two teams of three for a total of 6 players. I think you can choose between 10 or so "Heroes". Appears to have very similar mechanics to DOTA from Warcraft III. You acquire points to purchase upgrades of sorts. It also looks really fun because both base sides have extensive defenses to get thru.

What did confuse me a bit was that most hero units were infantry with maybe one being a jeep. What baffled me was that a lot of the defenses were made up of Anti-Tank Guns? Anyways, cant wait to play thru some of those modes. For this particular Assault game type, you can only play against Human Players, no Skirmish mode

The point of that gameplay mode is to hold up the victory points. The Base defenses are designed to be near impossible to rush--the real skill is in holding the victory points.

So no COH required? This could be an easy purchase.

Quote from Steam:

This stand-alone expansion does not require either of the original Company of Heroes games to play.

But there is a hot deal here for D2D or for Play.com (UK at least) for the two previous CoH's and ToV

So far I'm not too impressed with ToV. Campaign is sweet, but way too short, the germans are way overpowered, even more so than they already were. Their new units are much better and more versatile as opposed to the new allied units, which are all but useless except for maybe the kangaroo. This unit is great in theory, but in reality it still doesn't add much to the brits, and cannot effectively deal with superior panzers or blobbed rocket infantry.

There are some nice additions to the allied units like the AT rifles for the brit infantry and the tommy guns for Americans, but these only seem to be available during the campaign and are non existent in classic multilayer mode. Possibly, the new "operations", stonewall, assault and panzerkrieg is where the meat of this new expansion lies, but I haven't got around to it yet. Don't get me wrong, ToV is still nice overall, I guess... But I expected so much more out of it. One of my biggest expectations was a huge boost to the allies which they really need! I was hoping for some sort of unit that can kill stukas quickly and efficiently, EFFECTIVE AT weapons for the brit infantry, and cheaper tanks for the americans. But sadly none of this happened.

What about the T18 Hellcat for the Americans?

Have you tried the new Anti-Tank Tank for the Americanos?

Good grief !! I tried the Stonewall defense operation, and with 16 waves in increasingly more difficult attacks, it was complete chaos by the 16th wave.
Imagine multiple Tigers from multiple directions attacking all at once (I wasn't counting, but it was at least 8 tanks plus VG/infantry. Thank God for the mines laid in advance by my armored cars.
