They didn't like that answer and told him pretty plainly that even if that is what someone in his shoes would do, they don't want to be told that, they wanted to hear that he'd try and talk his way out of the situation basically.

I hate it when this sort of thing happens. You respond with a genuine and correct response and they tell you they want to be lied to. WTF

The interviewer isn't retarded. He'll just write "B.S." as your answer and ask the next question

Funny you should mention that, recruitment firm that is managing the communications with a job i interviewed for (same one i mentioned in 3rd post in this thread) just called. They said out of 8 candidates its down to me and one other guy, and they want me to have a 3rd interview just with HR to see how my soft skills are compared to his...
