I've seen ~5% dyno variance across multiple pulls on an unchanged car in the same session.

Could be that too. In my case I'd already done a custom tune, intake, and exhaust, and at around 40k miles I was noticing what I can only describe as a 'flat' spot in the power delivery at 5,600 or so. Replacing the plugs with the ones from that thread fixed that, and seemed to help with response. All that aside, it was still a slow car of course, just a bit more fun of a slow car. The best mods were by far the front/rear sway bars.

I think I'll skip the intake ..not sure yet. Went and test drove the new Yamaha zr6 today and I think I'll start saving up to get one next year.

Now that is a fun ride!

Yup I like that the handle bars are not sloped down like the cbr600. And it only ways 100lb more than my ninja but handles just as good. My friend's cbr is fun too but it has an uncomfortable seating position. Hopefully by next year I can sell my 250 and find a used Yamaha or cbr 500

Haha, yeah I forgot to note, the reason to get TBS is to have the easier nitrous route. Which is a terrible idea longevity-wise, but a ton of fun.

As for plugs, maybe it is usually useless? I used this thread, and it in fact made a difference to me.

I had a ton more mods than just the plugs though.

Ah yes, a TB spacer is good for that kind of thing so you don't have to drill holes in your throttle body. Good point.

Snazzy plugs alone are useless "upgrades" and just a waste of money. However, there are instances after doing a number of upgrades that you'll need a different plug type (usually colder or hotter range plugs depending on application, N2O usually uses 1 step colder plug for example).

It's kind of that way with all things though. Most of the small cheap bits can be thought of as support for the big bits.

You have a displacement, and within that displacement you can either try to burn more fuel, raise the rev ability, etc. All the small things (intake, exhaust, etc) can only make a small difference unless your engine is completely unbalanced (e.g. "detuned" and with a woefully small intake, restrictive exhaust, etc). Once you start with the big stuff (e.g. increasing displacement, adding boost, etc), then you have to do the small stuff because the small stuff your engine came with are now insufficient for what you have.

Calling them non-beneficial is not wrong exactly, but they are *required* to be changed once you start changing a lot of the bigger, more important bits.

Different plugs on an otherwise stock engine are probably pointless, but once you start adding boost, etc, you will likely have to change them because the oem ones are no longer correct for your application, and at that point they are required.
