Man, just got back from that computer show here in kc.. If you live here dont go.

Talk about rip offs.. GeforceII MX's starting at $100

15" Monitors 39 (that was not so bad)

I asked everyone there for Artic Silver and nobody even knew what I was talking about. That says it all.

A few years back, most computer shows were great. Lots of good prices, playing off one guy against the
other to get a sale. My guess is that the internet has made pricing very efficient, and that the people
at the shows cannot afford to beat someone like NewEgg on price.

There are also a lot less shows than there used to be, probably for the same reason.

I consider these computer shows the modern day version of the traveling carnivals and freak shows. A collection of low lives who just want to get the most amount of dollars from you for as little in return.

1. What real warrranty will one get after buying an item?
2. Do BB, CC, or any other stores force you to pay to shop at their B&M?
3. Why is there never any of those bargains that are shown in the ads available at the shows?
4. When will MS or the Business Software Alliance tell those who run these shows to make sure the vendors sell legit software?

Like those shows that promise low prices on clothing, electronics, and wide assortment of crap, no-name and inferior products is what one will find at these computer shows. IMHO, the main reason why these shows draw big crowds is that the non-technical crowd want something for nothing. Someone told them to grab some computer parts at a show and in a couple night a top of the line computer will be their.

The business model for these things is pretty simple:
1]An "event coordinator" charges vendors for space based on the presumption they can draw a crowd.
2] Same person charges for admission.

They are out the cost of venue and advertising. Get's pretty shady here 'cause they may promise exhibitors certain ad exposure and such. Met a fellow who did this for a living. Made out like a bandit and didn't care if anyone bought/sold a thing. 'Course at some events he took a % of the vendors gross too.

Seems like an unsavory way to make a living in some respects. Same person might do computers one week and bridal shows the next. It's all about headcount <<cha-ching>>
