Fleet changed the cash rebate rule on their 2% cash rebate card.
it used to be 2% rebate would start once you have spent $8000
now look at this totally cold new rule
$0 - $1,999 - .25%
$1,999.01 - $3,999 - .50%
$3,999.01 - $5,999 - .75%
$5,999.01 + - 1%

NO MORE 2% cash rebate! basically it's 1%.. worse than 1%.. I am better off getting a Shell Gas card or some other cash rebate card..

Update: Looks llike fleet did not change the policy for people who applied for the card under the old rule.

There is a good cash rebate card alternative, Juniper cash rebate MasterCard, 1% rebate starts at $2000, 2% starts at $10,000 which is better than other offers I have seen.. also there is amex platinum/costco cash rebate card, top tier is 1.5% which start at $15,000.. not really a 2% rebate card.

Aw man this sux. I turned my buddy on to the fleet card because he charges about $25,000 annually. Now he might as well have stuck with his discover card.

Fleet stinks. Unless your a big business or carry a lot of money with them they don't really care about a person. When they bought northeast savings and then started adding on fees... The final straw was when I was told it'd cost me I think $2 to see a teller!?!?
Went to Charter One Bank. Nice place, no monthly fees and even pays interest, and I don't have to pay $2 to see a teller.
Also they have this thing called Megarewards. It's down side is they charge $15 a year for it (you can use 1500 points to pay for it though), but on the other hand for every dollar I spend on my bank card I get a point.
I can cash it in anywhere from 1500 to 25000 points. 10,000 points gives me stuff like a couple of nights at a hotel, $100 off a plane ticket and so on forth. 25,000 points gets me plane tickets, cruise, electronics, cruises, etc...

No bank is perfect but fleet just gives me the impression they don't care about the average individual.

I just signed up for a Juniper platinum MC cuz it offered:

Tier A - For the first $1,000 of Purchases in a Reward Year the multiplier is .25% (.0025).
Tier B - For the next $1,000 of Purchases in a Reward Year the multiplier is .50% (.005).
Tier C - For the next $8,000 of Purchases in a Reward Year the multiplier is 1.0% (.01).
Tier D - For purchases in excess of $10,000 the multiplier is 2.0% (.02).

I currently have a Citibank Dividend Card which is not too bad (flat 1% back in $100 increments). This one should be a little bit better, but I they only pay out once a year ($500 reward limit) on your anniversary of opening the account.

citibank dividends. 1% flat, starting from $0 dollars. no tier. you do have to accrue $100 dividends before you get a check though.

i found this better than discover or the other tiered reward cards.

edit:whoops didn't see this mentioned earlier. oh well.

The Juniper card is a better deal. 1% starts at $2000, 2% start at $10,000.. with the help of c2it, I can get to $10,000 easily.

I'd hope my application gets approved.. I plan to get the maximum $500 rebate by using c2it.

someone on another board said he charged a total of $15,000 using c2it to earn airline miles with his credit card. c2it found out and suspended his account. but did not reverse any transactions. he gets to keep 15000 free airline miles..

I just plan to charge $10,000 in a year. every month around $800 or so.. that shouldn't get me in trouble I think.

Fleet also charges $5.00 to anyone who pays their credit card bill electronically through their web site, unless they sign for automatic monthly payments. Many banks charge for electronic payments only when they're made by voice phone.

Are these changes for new cards only? I just called Fleet and they said the terms and conditions of my existing Cash Rebate card have not changed. I don't have to carry a balance to receive my 2% rebate.

This whole thread is a puzzle to me.

1) I just received the statement for my Fleet Home Platinum card about 3 days ago (it offers 2% back on $5000+), and there is NO mentino anywhere of a rebate program change.

2) regarding this:

Fleet also charges $5.00 to anyone who pays their credit card bill electronically through their web site, unless they sign for automatic monthly payments. Many banks charge for electronic payments only when they're made by voice phone.

I have been using their online payment for well over a year, for both the FHP card above and a Fusion card, and I just made payments on both within the last two weeks. I have NEVER been charged for this service.

I guess I'll believe the things I read here when I actually hear/get charged by Fleet. I do have some issues with their customer service, but not with their program terms/benefits. In fact, when they were late mailing out the 2% rebate this year (didn't get them til March or April, shul've been Feb), they actually credited my 2001 rebate balance $35 to make up for the delay.

If anyone gets anything definite on this, please post. I got the Fleet card about a month ago based on a great post in this forum and planned to start using it January 1st for my $35,000 worth of charges each year instead of my Discover card.

Thanks

How does the c2it angle work? Don't they hit you with some kind of finance charge/interest for a cash transaction? Or does c2it come across as a regular sale with no fee?

I tried to fund a Citibank checking account with a Chase Visa a while ago and they were going to hit me with a cash advance fee.

Please state it correctly! "The juniper card is a better deal for me" For people who spend anywhere from $1 to $11,000 a year would have a better deal to go with dethman's citibank card.

edit: or any of the other flat 1% ones

i dont know too much about CCs but i think the best card out there right now is the
optima platnuim AMEX cash rebates card.

it gives 2% (on all purchases i think) and has all of the same features as blue including pricematching and 1 time use numbers (private payments, not really 1 time use i know).

i know that not everyone can this but i just thought id throw it out there.

I thought the AMEX card was only 2% if you carried a balance (1% otherwise).

I have the AMEX card. This is there cash rebate:

The rebate is an annual rebate equal to the following percentages of your annual level of purchases: 0.25% for the first $2,000; 0.5% for amounts from $2001 up to $5000; and 1.5% for purchases in excess of $5,000. An additional 0.5% rebate will be added for any billing period in which your account carries a balance. The rebate will be credited to your statement annually, in the month of February. The rebate applies to purchases but not to cash advances, returned purchases, balance transfers, or the purchase of American Express Travelers Cheques. To receive the rebate, your account must be open and in good standing.

It does not have the same price matching features as blue but does have buyer's assurance and purchase protection plan.

Same as the Costco/AMEX card.

What about the Chase I-card? Earn 1% of all purchases from the start towards webcertificates. Cash out in $10 intervals. Seems like a good deal to me.

Several rewards sites are currently paying out cash or points to sign up for it as well.

That's good. looks like fleet didn't change the policy for people who apply before the new rule.

Juniper is good. Amex cash rebate card comes in second..

For Juniper cash rebate mastercard
Spend $12,000/year = $135 cash rebate
Spend $24,000/year = $375 cash rebate
Spend $30,250/year = $500 cash rebate

For Amex Cash rebate
$12,000/year = $125 rebate
$24,000/year = $305 rebate
$36,000/year = $485 rebate
(do remember, more places accepts VISA/MC than AMEX, so I think juniper is much better)

For people who spend less than $11000 or less
You are better off getting any flat 1% card like the citibank divident card or any other 1% reward card. or, you can sign up c2it and ask your friends, family members to sign up. every month, just send a few hundreds to them using c2it with your credit card. since those transaction are posted as purchases, you can earn cash rebate. (note, some issuers still charges you the cash advance fee, bank of america was one reported. most don't, send $10 first, see if they charge you) if you can send $800 per month, that's around $10000 a year. with juniper all your other purchases will get 2% cash rebate..

get the fleet ed card and you get a 50$ savings bond for every $2500 you spend. Even though you have to wait 6 months for them to mature but it is a great deal. If nothing else you can do what I do and let them collect up and just keep them in a safe deposit box till you might need them , they do carry around 3% interest.

What is the "ed" card and where is it on Fleet's site? Thanks
