My guess is that based on the fact that newegg automatically gave me a free fedex 3day return shipping label along with my last RMA for a refurb, that they are raising shipping to cover the added cost of shipping high failure, defective items back.

I will still buy from them. Years of good deals, and the best service/turn around of any retailer I've done business with.....

dew.

I wonder if Newegg takes returned refurbs and throw them back on the site?

The number of refurb failures seems very high- and not manufacturer tested as they claim.

it seems to depend on what it is you are buying. some stuff is just returned crap that someone else returned.

i know that if you buy an asus motherboard from them, its actually one asus sends them and is brand new, jus tmissing all the accesories.
anything to make a profit at the cost of your convenient? I'm cheap, more cheap then you will ever know and I'm fed up with any refurbish. if you like to take the chance, good for you but their are those who wants something cheap and want it to work perfectly first time without having to deal with so many rma's costing the same as buying new or more in the end.
Let me tell you, I am no newbies. Have bought many, many refurbish in the past and have had nothing but problems. like cd burner, 3 times in a row all defective, only slightly cheaper then new. what i dont understand is why would someone assume that all products returned are perfectly working in the first place? hell its so much of a hassle that their must be something wrong for someone to do so. btw, i have had better luck with generic ram, only 1 out of 20 that did not work.

I've never noticed that. Is it just for refurb stuff or anything? Does it actually work?

Asus FX5900 256MB $400
This one's been on the refurb list for weeks. You can get a new Ultra version for $336.

I just noticed it when i logged in to check RMA status to get me RMA number i never wrote down, @ the bottom is a link that says create fedex label. Prints out a prepaid label, and the schedules pick up,

Let me rephrase my question:

Does NE take a returned refurb- not just a returned normal product- and just put it for sale again instead of discarding it?

Every "refurb" I've purchased from NE has a problem of some sort- not a small one, but a glaring one, which makes me wonder if they sell all returns as refurbs, regardless of whether they work or not?

According to Newegg, no. They send all product received from RMAs directly back to the manufacturers, who then either test and return the product or send a replacement to Newegg. Some of the manufacturers clearly don't even bother to test, and some clearly send new product for the replacement. But Newegg themselves just act as a distribution point in this respect. They get RMAs, they send them to the manufacturers. They get product back from the manufacturers, and sell them as refurbs.

Luck of the draw. Some manufacturers are more strict about their testing/refurbishing methods than others, and some don't even bother (send out new product as replacements or don't test at all). I've had mostly positive results from refurbs, and when I get a faulty piece of equipment, I RMA it either to Newegg or directly to the manufacturer, and get a good replacement.

Hmmm, I just created an RMA (for a SATA RAID card that would not create an array) and I can't find any link to print a prepaid label, either on the main "RMA STATUS" page or the individual RMA page.

It seems their prices in general have gone up... alot in the case of refurbs. A couple refurbs that i bought 3 weeks ago are now double the price plus three dollar shipping.

I really can't afford to buy refurbs anymore. Alot of the refurbs you don't even get 10 dollars off the retail price.. its pretty rediculous. I can't blame them for wanting to run a leaner business but such a dramatic price increas is just crazy.... especialy the discounts on shipping they get from FedEx.

Their prices have been going up a decent bit for more other products also. If they stay on this same track its going to be the perfect time for a new "cheap good" retailer to jump on track.

Sad but true

only problems i've ever had with newegg refurbs are a couple of bad raptors i rmaed to WD and them accidentially sending me a gigabit ethernet card rather than a router (mixed up the part numbers on their end).

all in all good.

my recent conquests have been Geil 512MB PC3200 for 51, 21" NEC CRT for 210, and 36 and 74 GB raptors for 80 and 161 respectively.

Their high end (3.4 & 3.2GHZ) refurb Intel CPU's used to be about 25% off normal price plus free shipping. Now, they're only about 10% off plus they added in shipping. I hope they have fun sitting on this refurbished inventory that's about to build up.

Always try to look on the positive side!

We should all be thanking Newegg!

It used to be that the deals were too good to pass up, and we bought stuff we didn't really need, because it was too cheap.

Now, when we see Newegg, we can all relax and smile, knowing that more cash will stay in our pockets this week!

I still love their refurbished mainboard. The DFI Nforce2 Ultra-AL I bought last week is rocking solid and freaking fast. Happy.
