<< hey i got news for you, any forum that experiences this amount of traffic is going to have to come up with a better business plan than "free". i love you people that think you're somehow entitled to free stuff. >>

I completely agree with the 11000 post guy! Paying per post, now there's a good idea.

The Site has always been slow to me. I just live with it. I don't subscribe, so I never felt I had the right to complain. I think it is perfectly fine to charge for more speed, but I have read a lot of postings saying that subscribers have problems too.

The reason these forums became great is because of all the people on it. We've got thousands of users out there searching out hot deals and contributing to making these forums awesome. Now one of the reasons contributing to this is because the forums are free.

If this forum became subscription only then there would be alot less hot deals and the forums would degrade.

However, nothing in life is free and running these forums cost money. So if anandtech doesnt set up a subscription service then we would not have the forums so I'll rather pay for subscription than have no forums at all.

Of course I think that speed should not be the factor that makes people become subscribers. The forums have become almost unbearably slow during the day! I know sometimes i dont bother to post deals (or browse the site) during the day because the lag is too bad. I think options like private messaging should only be for subscribers but keep the speed up for everyone.

I'm sorry but I don't see the point in paying for a service that is dependent on it's members. If people stopped posting deals then this forum would be worthless. Also, all of the really good deals that show up on anandtech show up on the other bargain sites as well. I have no problem going to another site (a nice free site) for my bargains if I?m expected to pay to use this one. Anyway, since the site started slowing down I?ve noticed that the deals haven?t been as good either. So going to another site for my bargains is no big deal. Just my opinion.

<< i'd honestly rather have an apple pie from McD's every week with a dime leftover >>

Oh great, so you melt the roof of your mouth and can't even sue them because they now warn you on the wrapper that the contents are hot ! Don't even reply if you are going to say .... well, wait til it cools down. That is NOT an option. I think the paltry amount to become a subscriber is the best option, as it allows AT to bring in at least a small amount of $$ to offset what would amount to a HUGE bandwidth bill that, in todays economy, is NOT going to be paid for by banner ads. What most of us find hard to do is to actually put forth the cash, when we end up rationalizing what we could buy with that $30 a year instead.

I hope the banners makes the bread to cover the forum expenses but somehow, I highly doubt it.

I don't mind that forums has a subscriber fee for higher speed but it's like NetZero and DSL. If you want free service, sit and wade through the ads and the slowdowns, if you think it's worth it, pay and get premium service (faster loads, higher bandwidth, no ads).

For me, I've just subscribed and it's definately worth it.

As for being subscriber only, I hope it doesn't get to that as I have friends that check out the forums every once in a while and that would throw them off, as would most of the members.

SHHHHH! Will you people stop telling people how good the subscription is. We want to keep all this bandwidth to ourselves.

I'm just going to wait here...soon enough people will subscribe that the subscription servers will be overloaded and the non-subscription server will be super-fast.

or hit the reload button, i dont.
the page works fine for me all the time.

Anandtech site is too slow to load. It is ironically and laughable that Anandtech recently even post a new article about how they upgraded their servers,

"With this upgrade we've moved to a set of servers that offers a performance density never previously seen in the enterprise market."

If this is the way how Anandtech force memeber to subscribe. I will be the first one to quit.

I never understood why this forums is so much more popular the phat--wa!!et anyways. They have a similar layout and allow coupon codes.

Anandtech existed well before FW and really didn't catch on until after they cracked down on coupon codes here.

and I helped them (fatwallet) get it going with many posts and whatnot....then the mods who are obvious who they are, got a little power hungry, then there were a few rotten apples there also, prolly some soccer moms so I came back to Anandtech

Anandtech has saved me thousands of $$$$, and I haven't paid a single penny.
Am I suppose to demand faster loading and no downtime? I don't think so.
Most people here pay money for their isp, and they can't even demand faster loading and no downtime.

If you get the 3 month subscription its a paltry $12, or the year for $30 brings it down to $2.50 a month. Personaly, I usually waste more than $30 on a sucky game that has much less return for the money at least once a year. Even if anandtech totally craps out and loses all the members you are out $12-$30 bucks, so what... thats microscopic. over a years time. The more subscribers, the more likely it is that anandtech forums will continue to grow since it won't be sucking out so much money from anand. Personally, I far prefer anandtech to FW, it just seems like its more computer oriented here, which is what I prefer. So far anandtech has shown no signs of stopping or slowing down.

I noticed the slow downs in accessing the website. When it happens I go somewhere else. Tom's Hardware does not seem to be having the same problems. If you subscribe you get faster access? I could be wroing but having a two-tier service level plan could lower traffic for this website which could not be good.

In the last year this forum has saved me at least 50 times the cost of the yearly subscription. In the last month alone I saved over $400. I figure the subscription is money well spent.
