I'm actually getting time-outs waiting for pages to load. This is the slowest site I visit. Didn't used to be like this. I'm broadband, other stuff just cooks, but AT HD is getting to the point where I'm skipping it because I know how long it will take to load. Some times it loads half the page and quits. Anybody else getting this? Could it be some routing deal with my ISP, Sprint BBD?

I'm surprised that no-one else is commenting on it. Mods, can you clue us in? Time for a new server? I'm getting 150-200msec pings, that's not that bad at all.

Same problem. I don't like it but continue to deal with it.

Anandtech forums uses bio-telepathic technology so that loading speed is proportional to brain speed, so its not the forum that's slow, its YOU!

...and wrong forum.

another explanation is "the forum is slowing down due to off topic posts being posted in the Hot Deals forum when they are not Hot Deals."

Thank you for bringing this thread up.

I had no idea what the problem was.

Can I pay the subscription monthly?

If yes, then that is cool, "no" and it will scare people away.

The monthly price for this is less than the cost of a cheap hamburger. I would rather skip the hamburger. But I am addicted to AT

I have 640k DSL and this site sometimes fails to load.

if it is a problem with your ISP's routing table then,
click on Tools> Internet Options> Connections tab> LAN Settings > then check mark "Automatically detect settings" or if it is already checked, uncheck it.

if that doesnt work, try overclocking your brain so that the Anandtech AMD Bio-Telepathic Processor will synchronize with your velocity ratios shinji-style and things will load faster. be sure to install a heatsink to your head.

$30/yr = $2.50/mo = 63cents/wk

AT is an awesome site, but i'd honestly rather have an apple pie from McD's every week with a dime leftover

I agree. I am much more likely to pay the $2.95/month or whatever if I can send payments once a month rather than one lump sum for the whole year. I know it works out to be the same amount of money, but $2.95/month just sounds less so I think people would be more likely to subscribe with a business model like this. Maybe that could be considered for the subscription plan??

Waal, whaddya know. <-- for you grammer/spelling cops

OK, I didn't know that signup deal was out there, my bookmark takes me directly to HD, I haven't seen that forum home page in a year or three. <--notice correct usage of the "three" instead of 3.

So I signed up for $30, (goofs never heard of Paypal? Had to drag out my Visa.

After a double logon rigamarole I hit the forum and YES, It's MUCH faster. It's even pretty good.

If I had known I would have signed up long ago, I've saved a bundle on here. Glad to contribute my $0.02 worth.<-- notice correct usage of leading zero's.

Thanks for getting me all straightened out. Others bothered by slowness, hie thee out to the main forums page and kick in your 30 bux for a years worth or chicken out for the quarterly deal. Rock on, d00dz

at $2.95 a month, the credit card company takes in $.30 transaction fee plus 3 percent so that's 13% going out of anand's pockets. this is why micro-payment systems based on credit cards do not work.

that's why its all in one lump sum of $30, otherwise there's no point in having all your profits going to the credit card company.

This is an interesting topic of discussion. I love this post by Pothead: "you can subscribe and get faster page loads...or don't complain."
Let me get this straight... we should have to pay a subscription fee just to get a web page that will load? I sure hope that isn't the business plan that's being put in to place, otherwise all the precious subscribers/Diamond/Platinum members will start hearing echoes and clearing the cobwebs from these forums as people flee to the site that offers a web page that loads for free. I'm guessing these are just snafus from a server upgrade going on, but it's funny to see the high-and-mighty frothing at the mouth over nothing.

Fine. Think of it this way: You're basically giving AT $30 of your rebate checks every year.

But hey, like i said, AT is an awesome site... i got nothing against it, or its sometimes slow servers.

There are now two dedicated servers for members so it leeches from all the servers being for all you leechers (me included).

Oh well, I guess I'll get off my lazy butt and actually subscribed. I thought it was more than that ($5) which was why I hesitated. I'm in now!

I don't mind the loading problems. It's the net...it happens.

I do find it a little annoying when they take the site down for maintainence or if it gets hacked and never point it out in their "site news" section. I've been up *late* the past few weeks and it has gone down several times. But from browsing the regular site, you'd have no idea it was going to happen or that it happened.

And I'm not just referring to the hack the site received today.

I love Anandtech and can understand if they are having problems. But it's always nice to have it acknowledged too.

Honesty is the best policy.

hey i got news for you, any forum that experiences this amount of traffic is going to have to come up with a better business plan than "free". i love you people that think you're somehow entitled to free stuff.

Official response from Zuni was that the load balancer died, and that was just a temp page that was already in place. It fits, because you could still go to forums2.anandtech.com etc while the problem was happening. Anyway, search for stuff posted by Zuni if you want to see his response about the problem today. I'm inclined to belive zuni's version, since it fits the facts, and if it WAS hacked, surely the hacker could have come up with something better

Cool. I broke down and subscribed.

I don't know if there's a problem but all of a sudden, my pages wouldn't load from subscriber.anandtech.com. It still is doing that. I hope it's just a fluke!

Yah, same here. Pretty much the first time its ever done that since I subscribed (aside from the load balancer dying today, etc). I'm guessing zuni was taking care of some stuff, it was the regular forums as well, not just subscriber. You can tell its a bigger problem when it affects both
