I am always in a conundrum when I go in to GameStop. There is the game that I want to pre order but if I spend the extra on it I can get this and that.
HUMM well I don't know. I would love to get the super amazing everything edition of it but I really only want to spend the money on the regular one.
DARN it. To any choices.

Well that's why I am posting this and I am also doing a poll with it. I want to know what version you would go with and why.

I use to like collector editions to this gen of systems came out and they went to crap. Seems like every damn game gets a collector/special/jerk you off edition now and the value has went way down for what you would get from what I remember. The last collector edition I bought was Rift and that was worthwhile, but before that, I can't even remember, maybe Warhammer Online?

I used to go for the "middle" collector's editions, the ones that were $70-$80. But even for the games I was really looking forward to, I realized I never actually did anything with the stuff that would come with it so I've stopped spending the extra money. It's all regular editions for me now.

I don't bother, I'm interested in playing the game not some useless crap that gets stuffed in the box with it.

Normal edition, always. Collector's editions are always overpriced.

Hell even normal editions are overpriced, I wait until the inevitable price drop.

It has to add enough value for me. I'm expecting MW3 Hardened Edition will, as it comes with the $50 Elite subscription that gets you all DLC and gets it to you early. Plus as much as I play COD, I certainly get my money's worth.

Typically the regular version. Based on value I might go middle of the road if it has something like a map (TES) or a soundtrack. I don't need Master Chief's "helmet" or a statue.

CE's aren't what they used to be. The $150 ones with resin statues and shit aren't worth it (to me) for the money. Maybe if it was like my all time favorite game or what not I could consider it, but hardly for every single game that has one. With that said, I think it's groovy that my Mass Effect CE is now worth three times used what it was worth to gamestop new.

I really don't see the need to have extra junk laying around the house. Electronics already come in enough packaging that is thrown away or takes up space.

The last one I bought was Fallout 3, the middle one for the lunchbox, bobblehead, etc. but now the middle ones are often just some in-game trinkets so I don't bother.

Definitely the Reg Version. I only buy collectors edition games if they come with something cool in game (not something used for 5 min then abandoned). Lately though even that has been a disappointment.

You should buy your stuff from amazon or something. Better company, cheaper price, no tax, no shipping.

I hate gamestop. They have shady policies.

It would have to be a series that i was a big fan of first. Not some game i'm buying for the first time...and then the CE would have to be worth its value

Amazon screwed up everything related to Dark Souls. No release date delivery, breaking CE promises, messing up shipping of the guide by two weeks, etc.

I would only buy collectors editions of games that I really love and will enjoy the contents of the collectors edition.

For the vast majority of games the regular edition is the way to go.

Even normal edition is overpriced. I wait until the $30 mark. Well, for most games, not all.

I avoid the special/collectors editions. I am not paying $30 more for a game that will be $30 in about 6 to 12 months. And I do not care to pay another $30 for worthless crap that is worthless crap.

I almost bought the Gears of War 3 Epic edition - and I thought to myself; "what will I do with this extra garbage?" I did not have an answer.

For those that love special/collectors editions - more power to you. But, if you notice, on Amazon.com, special editions usually drop in price.

For example, Dead Rising 2 @ $25
http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Rising-2-...8853554&sr=8-2

Not every SE/CE will drop to these prices, but you don't have to pay over $80 for something like this.

I almost exclusively buy standard editions, but for companies that I LOVE I get the collectors. Blizzard games, for example, are always collector's edition buys for me.

For a series I really care about, I often spring for the middle collectors edition, I dig the steel cases and the mini art books. Sometimes there's some decent in game stuff with it. Cant bring myself to buy the $150 edition of anything though.

I wish I got in on the original WoW CE. It sells for over $1000 on ebay. I knew I was going to regret not going to the midnight release 6 years ago. :hmm:
