So I am currently pursuing a BS in Psychology( I know, I know )

I had a rough start my first year and Fall term of this year wasn't any better, I'm trying to turn my act around and I am looking for any firsthand advice on doing damage control for my GPA/Grades.

My Goals:

-Eventually get my Ph.D. In Psychology, but for starters I want to get my BS in Psych then get into a graduate school I have in mind.

-Find a good internship in the next couple of years, even if its working in the mail room.

What I need to do:

Like I said, the last couple of terms have not been great. I failed one class in the last year, and got a couple of D's in some classes.

The upside is that my university does allow grade replacement, so here is my plan...

Dedicate all of spring term to making these classes up, after speaking with a counselor they suggested the best way to bring up my GPA was to retake the classes that I did poorly in.

So any advice on what to do from anyone that has been in this sort of GPA salvaging situation before?

Thanks

Retake your classes, visit professors during office hours (under worst case, the fact they know you and know you're trying bumps you up from a D+ to a C-, an B+ to an A-, or an A- to an A if you're in a college that does partials), take cake classes (but then again, psychology qualifies for that IMO).

This is something that I have heard from a lot of people.

They keep saying "take classes you enjoy and take the time necessary to complete them and do well."

I guess its true.

Yea, but don't go onto the 17 year undergrad plan, especially if you want to do grad school. As much as we'd all like to bang Tara Reid as of her older days, we can't all be Van Wilder...

Try taking neuropsych classes. In fact, take the introductory neuropsych class (Sensation and Perception) then get back to me on how much of a "cake class" it is.

Fail to see in a search of three major colleges where this falls under the umbrella of freshman/sophomore level class. Furthermore, one or two hard classes do not make a hard major...

WHY did you have trouble? If you haven't corrected whatever caused you to struggle before, there's no point in going on.

I agree the best way to repair your GPA is to retake the classes. It's not complicated - retake the classes, get better grades, and your GPA is fixed. As long as you know you've addressed whatever caused you problems earlier.

I fail to see why these classes must be freshman/sophomore level classes to be included as classes. Neuropsych is much more than one or two hard classes, it is an entire subfield of psychology (much like ME is a subfield of engineering), and is not the only difficult subfield of psychology. There are subfields that are ridiculously easy (social psychology), but to make a blanket statement that psychology is cake is simply moronic. I remember taking engineering graphics and intro to engineering back when I first started college, and they were ridiculously easy. I guess that means engineering is cake...
