In a thread like this you lose all credibility with statements like what you posted....

Except, it happened. Alabama offense was waiting on the Ohio State defense to complete their substitution and the play clock was running out. Alabama took a time out to avoid a penalty. If it wasn't going to be a penalty (which it shouldn't, at least against Alabama), why would they waste a time out?

Given what just happened this bowl season. I hope they stop auto ranking SEC teams ahead of everyone else. CFP system is great so far. 8 team would be the sweet spot though. This would let each power 5 champ in, and a few more deserving teams.

And, all that TV that was free, still is. All those free channels are still being broadcast, free of charge of the air.
Trouble is a lot of those stations no longer have the best programming. They are Bogarting the choice stuff and squeezing the public nowadays.

Championship game is now on ESPN, as well? what the fuck is this, boxing?

what a disgrace.
I'll be easing my way into Barclays again and trying to find a comfortable chair and a table near a screen. Wait, is Kips still open? Guess so, I think I'll still hit Barclays. I think the vibe will be way better. Go Ducks!

FSU in general wasn't as good this year. They lost quality NFL talent from last years team. For the most part he willed his team to wins. Geno Smith was never as good as Winston in college. There was also a lot of distractions, and once the team focused in they looked better. I think Winston will be fine in the NFL.

I don't know about Mariota. He just has to be drafted on a team that will tailor the offense to his strengths. I don't know how he'd do in a regular pro offense. Problem is he'll he drafted higher than he should, and that usually means a crappy team. I think at his best he will probably be Alex Smith.
No way, Mariota's way faster than Alex Smith, smarter too. If Smith were smarter he never would have taken the hit that sidelined him and got him traded by the 49ers. That hit was avoidable. Alex Smith was drafted by the 49ers because they thought he was more suited to the pro game than Aaron Rogers, but they made the wrong choice.

The 49ers are not well managed, haven't been since the days of Bill Walsh. George Seifert kept it going, but it was Bill Walsh (under the great Eddie deBartolo) that brought greatness to that team. They are just falling apart at this point. What they should have done was give the reins to Jim Harbaugh, let him pick a GM he would see eye to eye with. But the owner doesn't have the necessary vision. He blew his chance.

People forget how good Alex Smith was at Utah. He was a number 1 overall pick, above Rodgers, and they were undefeated that year. 32 TD, 4 Int, and 10 rushing TDs. And he's smart too, 40 on the Wonderlic test. Just for reference Peyton Manning scored 28.

Well see how he does without the Oregon system, but like I said I think at his best he will be Alex Smith.

Which shows how useful that test is for judging football IQ.

I mentioned it to remind people that everyone said the same things about Alex Smith that they now say about Mariota. They even ran a similar spread offense at Utah under Urban Meyer, just not as fast as they do it at Oregon. Mariota is quicker, but that doesn't really matter for QBs, unless he intends to run half the time.

Also interesting, Johnny Football scored a 32.

The world owes me free sports!

but also It's a National Championship game.

seriously--what the holy fuck?

Believe me--I'm not missing the game, anyway--I forget the college fball championship every year, the last 5 or 6 years anyway. I really don't follow the game anymore. Used to love it, but spending most of my sports time watching the NFL, it just seems way too slow.

It's the principal of the thing. Guess the NCAA really needs to stop shoving this "amateur scholar athlete" BS down our throats.

And no--I'm not "too poor" for ESPN. I just don't give a tit about cable. I actually have HBO + basic, which is great. I don't need all the other channels which I will never watch (never watched them the last 5 or so years I actually had cable)

the highest rated programs are still largely concentrated on those free channels.

So apparently the Ducks' second best wide receiver tested positive for marijuana and won't play in the final game. Which does raise the question... FUCKING MARIJUANA?!? Are you fucking kidding me?

I just had a conversation with a buddy about that. Ha!

I am all for legalizing marijuana, and hate when regular people are penalized for minor use "crimes"... but this is different. Sports leagues don't necessarily follow legal/illegal, and even in the many times they perfectly follow legal/illegal, it is clearly known.

Do I wish for people to not be punished for dabbing a bit in weed? Hell no.
Did this guy clearly know the possibility of what might happen if he were caught? I am willing to bet yes.
Some drunken party night or whatever happened, it doesn't matter - he did fuck his team over by willingly ingesting something the NCAA frowns upon.
Right or not - this is the here and now, not "what could be and should be."

I wish he would remain in the game, and there's still a slim chance he could, however doubtful.

Fuck the Ducks!, but I want a good game. It sounds like there's a strong chance one of their receivers will be missing the game as well (Devon Allen).

I know, right? Unbelievable that this idiot kid couldn't restrain from doing drugs and substances banned by the NCAA just like every other kid in the game is required to. He has a free ride in college and can go pro and make millions. Yet he can't resist getting high?? What a fool.

The line has moved a lot. Was at 7 or 7.5, now at 5.5 to 6.5

Kind of a big deal as breaking through the 7 point barrier is considered a big deal most bookies try to avoid.

A larger and larger percentage of the playoff games for major sports are limited to subscription TV. Many choice other programs are as well. Plus, the broadcast channels are subject to major censorship issues that subscription channels don't suffer. I'm no expert, I haven't had subscription TV for 20 years or so, but I've bought some DVDs of subscription TV shows and seen stuff I would think completely impossible on broadcast TV. I'm no fan of the FCC, I think they are tools of people who stand to gain from controlling public access to information. They want broadcasters to be "yes, sir" types, in fact they demand it.
