College + Girl - Car = ?

So theres this girl that i want to ask out to go out for coffee/lunch/whatever, and the nearest place is a good 20 minutes walk away, and i have no car (doh)
is it generally acceptable to just walk there, or do i have to borrow a friends car, or just meet her there or something?

Depending on the conditions outside I would ask her to walk with me. In twenty minutes of walking, you can strike up a good conversation and really get to know her.

When I was a freshman, one of my roommates didn't have a car and I let him borrow it so he could take his girl to a dance. He brought it back to me that night and everything was fine. But then, he asked for it again....and again....and again. If you do borrow a friend's car, explain up-front that you don't want them to feel that you're taking advantage of them... There's a lot of responsibility that THEY carry when they own a car and it's difficult to just hand that over to someone else....at least it was for me. (I didn't know how well my roommate made judgement calls on the road)

understandable... but it looks from what i can tell like he wouldn't have a problem borrowing a car. i don't know. some friends are like that. i don't just give out mine... but i've got friends with old beaters and they really don't care who drives it and when

Since we're talking abut college, I think it would be ok if it were a normal walk. If you're walking 20 minutes across campus or somewhere that its made for walking, it would be ok and possibly even pleasant. But if this is a 20 minute walk along a 3 inch gutter of an interstate, thats probably not the best choice of walks. 20 minutes isn't considered a long walk at most colleges. Sometimes it takes longer just to cross campus.

Why do you have to go out? Invite her to your place for a nice cup of coffee/tea or whatever. Cook up dinner and rent a movie or something. Going out is over rated anyway.
