something you're interested. if you're only in it because other people think its cool or theres a lot of money when you graduate you'll be miserable.

basically, i am in it for the money.
But I do have interest in computers especially messing around with hardware and designing graphics (i'll get better soon)

What is the exact occupation of a computer engineering? I heard it was mostly MATH

dunno what college you're going to... seeing how you're in sarasota i highly doubt you'll come to boulder, but this is a decent program here in the school of business.

if u just wanna mess with hardware and make graphics, u dont even goto college......
and theres not much money in that anyways....unless your really good with graphics and u can get a job with a game developer...

yea engineering is alot of math....and boring engineering stuff that has NOTHING to do with computers or anything applicable to real life (at least the 1st 2 years have been like that)

actually its almost 5 am and im "studyin" for an EE test i have tomorrow......so screwed

Take a lot of different things and see what you like. What you major in in college often has little correlation to what job you have in life. I was a music major in college, now I'm a web developer.

does anybody have experience with computer engineering??
I think that's the field I "might" be going into...not sure though

I'm a senior in computer engineering at the University of Central Florida. I love the stuff that I am doing and know that I will be able to get a good job once I graduate. The first two years is mostly math and physics type stuff. Any engineering major is going to have to take basic angineering courses such as statics and dynamics. That might not sound fair, but the mechanical and civil engineers have to take principles of EE, but general knowledge is good. Computer engineering involves a lot of programming and a lot of hardware stuff. I not only have had to learn C/C++ and Java, but alos Intel Assembly and Motorolla microcontroller assembly. If you arent really good at math, don't even try. If you want to program and arent too good at math, do Computer Science. If you want to be a tech support or network admin person and know NO math, do MIS.

so far its pretty boring....im a junior....i having 2nd thoughts about it...but im pretty much stuck in here unless i wanna goto college for another 4 years

hey... I'm a total computer geek and I was the president of computer club in HS.. but then my math is not too great and I can't code worth anything.. so to me EECS is out of my question.. I'm pretty good and enjoy Business administration.. but I found my true real talent is in History/ Poli Sci.. so I choose Poli Sci/ International RElations.. I'll probably get either a BA in International Business or MBA in International business though.

At the UofWashington the computer engineering department is basically the computer science department with three EE classes. Sort of useless ones too since they push CE as being for embedded development and the EE classes they take have little or nothing to do with embedded design. CE varies ALOT from school to school. CS does as well but not as much, same with EE. It doesn't really matter anyways because you'll end up doing something different most likely. My boss is a physics major with a specialty in plasma physics, one of my coworkers is a structural engineer and we do embedded systems programming here!

I think it also depends what school you are going to. Some schools specialize in certain majors and come out strong when you get to the real world. But I really suggest you should do something you really want to do and find good interest. I majored in Computer Information Systems in the Telecommunication track at Cal Poly Pomona. Look into it at www.csupomona.edu.
Good luck!

Another Comp sci club pres. in the house . Im a comp sci major at UT (going into jr. yr)

<< . If you want to program and arent too good at math, do Computer Science >>

This is NOT true. There is so much math involved in this major that many decide to double major in mathematics. As I see it there are really 3 options for someone who wants to study computer related stuff. Computer engineering (ce) is basically electrical engineering with a focus on computers. youll have to take a bunch of sciences and math and this is more hardware related. computer science is basically programming, but not really learning new languages and writing programs. there is definitely that aspect to it, but it is also theoretical. youll study things like efficiency, data structures, logic, as well as some of the hardware side. MIS is computers for the non-math, non-science person. very little programming is required. in the intro class you will learn about complex devices such as a "facsimile machine" and powerful software like "spreadsheets". regardless of my opinion tho, it is a popular major. at my school MIS is a business program so you will take all businessy classes (econ, accounting etc.). there really is no "best" area to study in. granted there are some fields that will land you a higher paying job but that doesnt mean jack crap if you dont like what you are doing. youve probably heard that before, but trust me its true. also many of the departments have classes for people NOT in that major. that way you can try classes you might be interested or get a minor in something.

For most people you have to major in something you enjoy since that is basically what you will be doing your entire life... For me it's Computer Science, I'm graduating from A&M in december and will probably be going to UT or Rice for grad school.

Do what I did: go to a career counseling service and take an aptitude test. It took me about 2 hours to take this test, but after I did it told me that, based on my interests and personality, I'd be best suited as a doctor or engineer (which happened to be the 2 professions I was choosing between at the time).

It's a worthwhile time investment, and you might be surprised what you find. Best of luck!
