The good thing is that it's only been a year, so you didn't loose much time. Just start working harder now, and everything should be fine. Some people take forever to realize. Start off with taking the easier GE courses. Then slowly start taking one/two harder courses each term. Go to class everyday even if it's boring as hell. I have just completed my 4th quarter (total 1 year and a quarter). I followed that pattern, and so far after a year and a quarter, my gpa is 3.2 (though I gotta bring it up for my major). I slack off when I can, which is a lot, but I study my ass off when midterms/tests come around. You just gotta learn to organize your time a bit, and you should be fine. I have a few friends who are in the same situation as you, and one of them has switched schools to start over. As BigJ stated above, that could be another option for ya. Good luck!!!

Your choice of major and time management are major factors here. Write down what you do/did during the day and how long you spent on each activity. Get one of those planners at Staples, Office Depot etc, and start managing your time more effectively.

Yeah I didn't have an advisor so I chose some classes that I didn't need, some that were too hard and screwed myself big time in some spots. I think I will just try working my ass off and get better grades and then retake some of the classes to get a better grade.

Good luck man. My buddy wound up leaving a school where he had a 0.72 his first semester, went to a CC for two semesters, and last spring transfered to a SUNY school. Ever since leaving, he's had a 4.0 at the CC, and a 4.0 at the SUNY school.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Keep in touch with the counselors at your school. Sit down with them at least twice each term (beginning and end) and discuss your choice of classes. That's the best way to know what to take and what not.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the impression I am getting from what you're saying is that if I transfer to another school it won't carry my GPA over, but it does carry my grades over? So in a sense I will start over with a new GPA?

Transfer credits have "TR" grade, do not get into your new GPA.

I think the two GPAs are mutually exclusive. At least that's how it was when I took a class at a CC. I just got the credit and not the GPA. Then again, I only took 1 class over summer, unlike someone who attends for a whole year.

If you transfer to another school, they will evaluate your transcript based on the grades you had in the courses at your old school. Normally, if you received a C or above on the course, you have a good chance of acquiring credit for the class.

Basically:
C or above: you can get transfer credit
GPA does not carry over to a new school.

But if I apply to grad school they will see transcripts from all schools right? So it would pretty much be useless to do this since the grad school will end up seeing the GPA and grades anyway?

Think about the grad schools you'd like to apply to and see what they want as part of their admissions requirement.

You certainly can repair things. Once you decide to apply yourself, you'll be fine. But the most important thing is to figure out how you are going to change, so you don't have any more problems. If you retake the classes, the new higher grade will cancel out the previous one. It's not the disaster you might think it is.

Now you might not be able to get your scholarships back in one term, but you should talk to your financial aid person about that.

exactly HOW bad did you have to do to get a 0.2?

That must be a typo, because I'm pretty sure they would kick you out of CC with a GPA of 0.2

Normally, you'll get one semester on probation if your GPA falls below a 2.0. If it was just his semester GPA and his cum. didn't fall below a 2.0, then he might have put on restriction, but not kicked out.

Is that a typo?!?

Nope. That would be four F's and a D. And I was admitted through their scholar's program!

I had to meet with an admissions person and someone from the Dean's office, and they put me on probation but let me stay in for one more semester. Got a 3.4 and I was put back on normal status as long as I had a cumulative 2.0.
