Well FvCK me! I got into UCLA, USC and UCI but I can't believe I didn't get SD. Unbelievable

Sorry to hear that. I got in both UCLA (biology) and UCSD (Biochem and Cell Biology) I thought UCLA is harder to get in than UCSD. If I choose between two, I would go UCLA unless UCSD gives me full scholarship or something.. I am stilling waiting for Berkeley. Anyway, If I go to UCLA, I will see you in my class..

Not really, the UCLA grad student/faculty araptments are nice and cheap. They have special price for grad students. Not like the undergrad dorms.
My apartment-2bedroom/bathroom, share with another grad student, fire place, belcony, huge living area, and they even have day care center across the street. 528.50 a month.

Sorry to your about not getting in.

You got into UCLA, which is an exceptional school. Your gripes are almost nonexistent as you have great schools to choose from.

So appeal, and then transfer over a year later if you like UCSD that much.

You're going to LOVE UCLA though. I had a blast there for summer school.

That is your problem... you shouldn't have set your heart on a college... there are too many variables.

Go rent an indian from one of those casinos and tell them it's your uncle Jeronimo, and that you checked the wrong ethnicity box on your application.

I didn't mean UCSD is that much worse than UCLA academically. Academically it's pretty similar, although UCLA still has the better reputation. What's more important for me (in terms of the difference between 2 schools) is that UCLA has a strong athletic program. I've talked to people from colleges without sports programs and they say that not having a sports team to cheer for is something that they miss.

If you plan to major in Biology, I think UCSD has the edge. From what I've heard the Biology department is phenomenal there. If you want to major in something else though, UCLA generally has stronger departments. In my case, I majored in Philosophy and UCLA's philosophy department is in the top 5 according to some polls/rankings.

I don't know the exact process, but I think it involves some or all of the following:

1. Call the school and say something... I don't know exactly what.
2. Write the school a letter letting them know why you think they should re-evaluate your application. Let them know how much you want to go there and that you would go there instead of any other school if accepted. Let them know that you have an acceptance to UCLA but UCSD is really where you want to be.
3. In the letter give them updates, like new grades, new extracurricular activities, etc.
4. Ask if a letter of recommendation will help your application. If they say yes, ask one of your teachers for a rec letter after explaining your situation.

There might be a more formal way to do this, but I don't have information on that.

the easiest way is to present some new information that will make a substantial impact on the selection committee.

now if you had just a 3.5, 1200 SAT, 600 on all your SAT II, no extra curriculars, and you were bitching you didn't get into UCLA, unless you're a super opressed minority, there's no way you'd get into a place like UCLA.

if there is a substantial change from the info on your application, try to bring up a case. like "everyone in that class failed due to the teacher's personal vendetta against the student" or "i recently won first prize in the national science fair" or something to that extent. you need to prove yourself again why you're so great and the school needs to have you that badly.

above all, DO NOT FREAKING LIE during appeals (or the application process). i have seen people have their admissions revoked because of lying on their applications and the UC's do verify randomly info on applications.

I had a friend who was also pissed that he got rejected from UCSD but got into UCLA. Supposedly if you applied to a school that is ranked higher, you would automatically get into that school and rejected from 1 or more of any of the other UCs you had applied to since they think that you would obviously just go to the higher ranked school. That way they can offer admission to someone who truly had UCSD as their first choice. But as you have experienced, this process does not always work out.

My friend appealed but I'm not sure if he ended up getting in or not. I know he stayed at UCLA but that might be because he enjoyed it here. I went to UCLA...it's a fun school. If you prefer a quiet, more boring one than yeah...try to transfer to ucsd

dont worry i got rejected from UCSD, too. that was three years ago. i was really sad. i didn't think i was going to college. it was the first UC school to send out a letter. later though, i got into both UCLA and UC Berkeley (where i'm at now). berkeley's a great school with good weather, brilliant professors, and great opportunities to do research. the girls are so so if you ask any guy on campus. hahaha. anyhow, my friend appealed UCSD when he got rejected and was accepted, so try that. i don't know how the process works but at least TRY, because for my friend it worked for him. good luck!
