I am seeing a LOT of college students at these pro-union protests.

Not just in Madison either.

These students are not in a union, likely will never be in a union, and one could argue that their futures will be better without public sector unions.

Is it all a game to them? Are they just there to be with other people and rebel for something?

Can they see the other point of view on this issue or are they just blindly pro-union?

Are they just naive and being manipulated by Jon Stewart types who they worship?

Also, I wonder if they made a living and earned a real paycheck where they have to pay thousands in a year in taxes if they would feel differently.

They have tons of free time, partial to total isolation from the real world (might live on campus, parents pay the bills, no serious responsibilities, et cetera), most of their teachers lean left... what do you expect?

This - plus it's a great place to get laid.

They aren't in the workforce but they will be... I was in college and I'm in a union now. As a result I've been sick for a week, and didn't have to worry about going to work sick, because the union negotiated 21 sick days a year.

Makes a lot more sense for college students to protest for collective bargaining than for some old retired guy on Social Security taking MY tax dollars to protest socialism and taxes....

smoke another one man

I can't, but my words are still true.

It's easier to follow in the words of another than think of your own words.

College students, that have no idea what it is that is happening, find it easier to protest against the machine than to find out what the machine is, or how to circumvent it.

I think it's nice that Americans are starting to rail against the status quo, but I don't delude myself into thinking they know what the status quo is.

Maybe they think that unions have value even if they aren't in one. I have never been part of a union, I've paid thousands in a year in taxes, and I am fiercely pro-union. People can think differently than you without being some crazy person... which should be pretty obvious if you stray from extreme right wing news/opinion sometimes.

Hope that answers your question.

This is exactly why we need to take away their right to vote.

If we're going to get in the business of taking away people's right to vote, the first ones to go should be people like you who are trying to deny it to others.

Probably something something about there parents not being rich so not being able to afford private schools...
Lower the incentives enough and suddenly no new teachers in an area, poorly qualified ones which can sometimes even be worse then none at all.

I suppose one could go without an education though if they wanted to...
Would make them much easier to control and all, by those with means to do so.

Because they believe that it's the right thing to do?? Seems like that would be the reason lol

Just because you aren't directly involved doesn't mean that you can't have an opinion on something. Just like pro-choice/pro-life people they may not have an abortion or even be a woman but they sure can support what they believe in. There sure were lots of republicans backing the tax cuts for the top income earners even though they weren't even close to that income bracket.

Pretty sure that a lot of those kids are supporting family, friends and loved ones who are in the now neutered public unions and then those students brought classmates along for the fun of it.

You need to read Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer: Thoughts On The Nature Of Mass Movements". It's old, but still the preeminent work on protests. It pretty clearly lays out why there are so many college students at protests.
