So here I am a Junior in HS slacking off as usual and i guess its finally starting to hit me that grades do matter somewhat, I am the classic slacker case and i consider myself fully capable of easily being 1 of the top 10 in my class, but I'm not and im prolly far far from it because I have never had any motivation. I still lack motivation and its making me wonder all these boggling questions that im sure alot of people ask themselves such as will i get into the college i want etc etc. Are colleges really as hard to get into as it is portrayed? I want to go to UT Austin and i make generally B-C's and im still slacking so who knows what lows i will acheive. How imporatant are SAT/ACT Scores? I took a PSAT in the 7th grade and made ~1200, I think i am capable of doing much better now that i will actually know the material as opposed to going off of just what i think but who knows

Just venting i guess, idk the real reason of this post so just nef or whatever

GPA - How hard you work
SAT - How smart you are

think most of us here have a lower-end GPA and a higher SAT, such as myself. But most collegess weigh them the same amount, but what they like to see is how hard you push yourself. They would rather see someone who takes Calculus in 11th grade and get a C then one who takes Algebra II and get an A. It shows that they are trying to do harder work instead of taking the easy way out. Just my two cents.

don't worry, if you get into college and you still don't have your sh*t together, you'll be out before you know it.

The problem that you are going to run into is that in college, your slacking won't cut it. If you slacked and got A's, then you could probably go to state school and slack and get B's & C's and graduate, in criminal justice or business admin.

If you want a real education, stop slacking NOW. It is REAL hard to develop study habits, and it's a lot easier now that later.

If you can't break the habit now, skip college and go to work. After a few years the motivation will find you.

SAT most accurately measures how well you can take the SAT, not how well you'll do in college or how smart you are IMHO.

Nor does GPA necessarily mean anything; a girl in my dorm (u of chicago) didn't know what a fascist was, and she was first in her highschool class.

The only way to overcome slacking is by working. Find something interesting to you and read up on it.

Just one man's opinion.

True...like some of the rich kids at my school, their parents shell out $1000+ for Kaplan SAT prep courses and the kids on average end up getting 100 points or more increase on their SAT scores.

lol. This girl in my english class, who scored around 70 more pts than I did on the SATs (she's the rich kid I was talking about above whose parents basically bought her way into college) and whose GPA is higher than mine raised her hand and asked the teacher, "Can you land on the sun?" LOL....she's academically smart, but very stupid when it comes to common sense.
