OK I'm not really sure what I want to major in - maybe theatre (acting/writing/directing), writing, music, law, philosophy, cosmology, astrophysics, digital art, or a few other things, so basically I'm looking at schools that offer good programs in all of those areas...right now I've got:

1. Brown
2. Harvard
3. U. Chicago
4. Cornell
5. Colgate
6. Boston University (cross-enroll @ Harv. mb)
7. SUNY Binghamton (safety school, of sorts...#3 rated a cappella group in USA)

Any suggestions/tips?

If theater is your thing, and you're looking at Ivy League schools, why not Yale?

Sure, Harvard got the American Repertory Co. away from Yale in the 80s, but Yale still has quite the undergrad program in drama... which is something Harvard doesn't. If you go to H, drama will be an extracurricular... which doesn't mean you still can't become a fine actor (Jack Lemmon, John Lithgow, Tommy Lee Jones all went to H), but it may be something to consider.

Of course, Harvard is a much finer school than Yale in every other way, and you are much less likely to get beat up or shot up in Cambridge than New Haven...

Edit: Cross-reg at Harvard Business School? Not possible, unfortunately. It's possible for Harvard undergrads to take courses at HBS, but not to earn degrees in business. Applied Math or Econ are as close as you come; given the number of Harvard grads on Wall St. making tons of money, it's not much of a loss. But there's no link with BU or anyone else in the area, except... maybe MIT? Not sure. Then again, with the Sloan School, why would an MIT student want to take classes at HBS?

I just went to visit a friend at harvard, and i really loved the campus. It's a fun place to be apart from all of the studying. I can't really speak for the academics, but i think the school does have a decent reputation

Boston is a great city to go to school in. Much fun, cool things to do. (Harvard does have an awsome campus, btw, and, yes, the academics are 'up there' )

Personally I didn't like Brown as a school, yeah the people there seemed fun but they seemed really weird too.

i am partial to cornell i didnt get in tho skip it if you dont want something technical though

i hope you know it is gonna cost u about 1k if u plan on applying to all those schools

i would narrow your list to about 3

and remember ivy league schools dont hand out scholarships so you will be stuck with @ least 100 K in loans by the end so if you want to be an actor , musician , writer or artist you are going to have a very hard time paying off your loans and getting by

unless your parents are that generous

Wrong. They don't hand out merit-based scholarships, but they give out tons of financial aid. 70% of Harvard undergrads receive financial aid of some sort (including loans, but there are a lot of grants.)

I had a friend in college who got through four years with $26,000 in loans but only paid $8,000 total in tuition -- H gave her almost $20K/year in need-based financial aid.

I've never heard of anyone coming out with $100K in loans...
