I have been a hurting unit for quite some time and finally got sick enough to get to a Doctor for a colonoscopy that was 7 years overdue.

The good Doctor removed three polyps, one of which was heading out of the small category. The good news? No cancer! The bad news? Divercultis and colitis as confirmed by biopsy, still waiting to hear about tests for Gluten issues.

Three potentially bad actors removed from my colon ...a relief for sure. Now starting to be treated for my other issues and hope to regain my life.

Here's the thing, gut issues aren't just for old people, younger and younger people are being diagnosed with colon cancer. Make sure to speak with your Doctor, seek help promptly for any troubling symptoms. Most importantly, speak to your parents, ask about the results of the colonoscopies! Ask about any colon cancer in your extended family. The pathology reports of immediate relatives could well mean that you need to schedule your first scope before age 50.

Just do it! I am so sorry I waited and lived in pain and misery for so long, the procedure was a cake walk, the prep was the worst part of the entire thing!

Just get checked please!

How long did you have to wait for the biopsy results? I hated the wait

+1 your advice though, and what I'd add to it is: Listen to your body. If you start getting discomfort or your body's rhythms change in some negative way on a semi-regular basis, it's better to get checked up rather than the potential alternative.

You should probably go to the hospital if you have any kind of hurting "for quite some time."

Good to hear there's no cancer but sorry to hear about the diverculitis.

I had to get a colonoscopy/endoscopy a few years ago and I'm relatively young (30) because I had this insane unexplained sickness and they thought it might be cancer. Luckily as well that was not the case.

You're definitely right about the prep.. horrific, but worth it in the end.

The thought of having to discuss my restroom habits with strangers was mortifying, the thought of colonoscopy was terrifying! I am not the only person to feel this way!

While waiting for my biopsy results I saw a lot of threads from young people over at a site devoted to colon cancer.. People in their 20's!

Be as rude as you like, I won't be shamed by anyone regarding this issue, it is too important!

1. I'm shocked to find that Geekbabe is still here, I thought she was long gone with many of the other AT old timers.
2. My dad had colon cancer at age 50, and as I'm almost 40 (wtf? how did that happen?) I just got to start my 5 year screenings recently.

They told me right away what they had found, the nurse also told me the Doctor thought the polyps weren't cancerous but we needed to wait for the full pathology report. The Doctor called me in exactly seven days with the results.

Yeah, it seems a lot of people are scared or embarrassed by that, but when it actually happens, people complain more about the preparation (4L of GoLytely) than the actual procedure.

Familial colon cancer?

Glad you're OK.

:hmm: Maybe the thumbs up is not appropriate here, butt ...

My wife went through a similar thing early this summer. She was having severe abdominal pain which turned out to be Diverticulitis, exacerbated by some ovarian cysts. She was in a lot of pain, but once the swelling went down after a couple of weeks she felt much better.

Remember people, don't ignore those subtle, or not so subtle signs your body is giving you.
