In my experience, you get what you pay for from TigerDirect.

I would much rather have TDK or Verbatim DVD blanks. But hey, some people need free coasters for their drinks.

Edit: I've picked up 50-spindles of TDK from Newegg for like $6-7. Contrast that with the risk of a rebate of $10 for a product that should cost no more than $2.

I guess I wouldn't be so negative on this deal if this didn't have "sucker" written all over it. If they sold it for $2 with a $2 rebate, that might be alright. But to inflate the price 5x, and then have the risk of a rebate, that's not for me. I'd rather just pay a straight price (but cheap!) for decent-quality media, not unknown.

Granted, there are only a few media producers left, and if these are produced by one of the major OEMs, then they might not be too bad, but there are some really bad OEMs out there too.

Edit: I apologize for being so negative. I'm personally a bit rebate-averse, and would prefer to pay a straight price (but discounted) for products. Like Newegg currently has Ritek "Magic Silver" label DVD-Rs 100-spindles for $15.99 after promo code.

Good & rare free shipping filler item to use with those TD dollars-off coupons.

This may not be top-tiered media like Verbatim or TY ones that one would use for long-term archive, they are not junk, either. I bought some last year and have burned 20+ without making a coaster. TD uses 4myrebate for their rebates, and in my experience has been very fast (not even paying for the expedited processing) and easy to apply. Basically one is getting 30 discs for the price of one stamp. As an alternative, you can get 50 blank TDK DVD-R's for $8 AR at NE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

The tiger direct reviews on this one don't look bad.

But Virtual Larry made a good point about the differences in upfront cost.

If anyone is contemplating buying this one, make sure you have time to fill out and track the rebate.

P.S. Here is some info on DVD quality differences---> http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm (At some point I may try to determine who makes these DVDs, but according to the link many of those third tier DVD makers are now gone)

FAR: the new floppy disk

I have stacks of DVD/R from past deals. Now I use flash drives...even for music in my F150/MSsync.

Color Research uses CMC-MAG media.

FAR: the new floppy disk

I have stacks of DVD/R from past deals. Now I use flash drives...even for music in my F150/MSsync.

I also have stacks of unburnt DVDs, but the days of FAR blank DVDs are behind us as far as I can tell. I still burn DVDs to archive data so my inventory is going down.

Also thanks for the post but I am very adverse to TD, especially when rebates are involved. Since this is an extremely overpriced item of unknown quality to me, I'll pass.

TD caught a lot of flack for their rebate processing in the past. The last few years they have been excellent. The rebates are handled by 4myrebate, which is not only very fast to process the rebate, but also to notify you of its status (I don't even bother to pay for expedite service). I've submitted hundreds of TD rebates and have been very pleased with the process.
