what's the difference btwn the armadillo shell and ballistic parka? They don't have the ballistic in the color/size i want

I ordered mine Friday the 20th and received it Friday the 27th; standard shipping (UPS ground).

The Armadillo shell is just the shell. The Ballistic parka is the shell with the removable fleece liner jacket.

It must be a pricing error or they have a bunch of parkas to get rid of. Why would they try and sell the shell for more $$$ than the entire parka?! LOL Doesn't make sense.
Thinking of getting the pants now to match! My old ski pants aren't too waterproof anymore. $60 with the coupon. Anyone find a cheaper place to get them?
We had a storm from Alaska here last night in California. Got to use my jacket, worked GREAT!

Hey DOG, why don't you call FOGDOG's customer service number and ASK them where your jacket is?! I don't think your going to get any info. on your order, asking in this forum. Their customer service line is open LONG hours and the guy I talked to was really helpful.

I got the armadillo shell from GI joe's this past summer for $100...off season's the best time to buy this kinda stuff. Anyways it is great, just strap on a fleece vest and go! I think a fleece jacket inside this thing would be too hot unless you're just gonna be sittin around. This is great for those cold rainy hikes, and I'm sure it'll be great on the slopes too.

reioutlet.com has a BUNCH of new goretex stuff for about the same $ as this Columbia stuff. Brands like: Sierra Designs, Marmot, The North Face, Moonstone and others, all TOP notch expedition quality gear. Shipping is FAST ( I just bought some g-tex pants for the lil lady on the 31st, got them today - the 2nd... Marmot $260 list, shipped/taxed for $100) There were some coupons floating around (20/75) but they expired on the 31st, there may be new ones, I don't know.

Goretex is the ONLY way to go if you are ever in very cold/wet/windy conditions. I have owned several Columbia jackets (not-titanium tho'...) that don't hold a CANDLE to gore tex. I'd replace them every year. Once you've tried it you WONT EVER go back. I've now had my jacket 3 years, and it's as good as new.

Gore tex is as good as it gets. Doesn't soak thru, excellent wind blockage, very packable. You'll have to supply your own insulation layers with most g-tex shells, but since it's wind and water proof you'd be amazed at how little you'll need to keep you warm.

ebuying new gear for the snowboarding season coming, plan on using this equip quite a bit

anyone know how well the ballistic parka does on the slopes? i've heard from many snow-buds that nothing beats true goretex if you can afford it. i want the best stuff when i hit tahoe in a few weeks.

was going to pick up a pair of new snow pants as well, what's a good pair to match the jacket with? hopefully nothing too pricey, but i figure i'll pick up all my snow gear in one order w/ the 20% off coupon. doesn't expire until the end of this year i believe.

You guys who have received it, is this the EXACT SAME SHELL as the Armadillo shell? It matches the picture of the Armadillo, right? Will anyone who's received this jacket either post a picture of the jacket to the web or else e-mail it to me at jefe@mindless.com . Thanks a million!

edit: In response to your post above, the shell is just plain awesome in the snow. I was doing some slalom and giant slalom racing this past January and I spent a lot of time in the snow(from crashing). This jacket keeps the elements out and will keep you warm in the coldest of weather. It will keep you dry in the rain, and always warm. The only drawback is that it weighs a lot with the zip-in fleece. The shell is light, but the fleece is heavy. Great jacket overall, definitely a hot buy at $185(or $190 with shipping).

As near as I can tell, the Armadillo and the shell of the Ballistic are identical, but I've never seen both together. My new shell looks just like the picture of the Armadillo and Fogdog's main picture of the Icefield parka. Basically, it looks like Fogdog has mixed up the pictures of the Ballistic and Icefield parkas (but just the oxide/shade photos are wrong; the photo of the Icefield in blue is correct).

Unfortunately, their site now says the Ballistic Parka is temporarily out of stock.

Someone else posted some deals from REI. I've bought tons of stuff from them and love them. I encourage you to also check them out. While we're at it, The North Face makes darn fine gear, too, but they're a little more expensive.

I just got back from my vacation to Switzerland. The Ballistic Parka I got from this deal worked great in hard rain and snow! Thanks for the HOT deal! It looks like they are out of stock now, I wonder if they will change the price if they get more in. They still have the Armadillo Shell at the same price the Parka was listed at! LOL

I looked at the Armadillo Shells when I was in a local store. They ARE the Ballistic Parka, just without a liner.
