I always hear how super tough it would be to travel to mars (what is it like 1 year travel) for a human because of psychological issues or whatever.

Has no one thought of giving those dudes a copy of skyrim (or something like that) and let em play while they are going to mars?

I mean, that's beside the obvious things (like a collection of tv/ "videos")

World of warcraft would be better.

Every time they get the best gear just make a new expansion.

You need a full daily routine. Games certainly could occupy a few hours a day, but you'd need a more well rounded routine.

Hmm... I'm pretty good at wasting time if I have the internet. What do you suppose would be the best approach at using the web with that kind of lag; wget the pages?

Zero-G nookie. Just hire attractive women astronauts and there won't be any problem.

You're going to lose interactivity. You obviously can't click around the internet, but you can grab archives of data. For example, you couldn't navigate to NewYorksTimes.com, but you could download the daily set of articles from them.

Yeah, I guess exercise would be pretty important too, probably resistance type, because I heard muscles atrophy much faster w/out gravity.

We just need a ship that accelerates at a constant 1g. Mars trip would take two-three weeks each way with symmetric acceleration/deceleration.

You've got the idea, I've got a truck, hardhat, and a clipboard. Now we just need some capital and someone to design the thing and we're all set.

I know where to get some big rocks. Maybe we can build some sort of catapult thingy.

I have an idea about a troll drive. Someone would fart and on-board trolls would accelerate the gasses to near light speed out the back end of the ship.

If someone can get a bulk discount at Home Depot, we can get some garden hose, attach it to the ship, and terraform Mars.

With water.

If you want to smash into mars at like 15,000,000,000 mph or something then sure but it won't be much of an expedition.

Hmm... now we need bulk garden hose. It will need to be larger than an alternator. This may be out of our depth.

The guys on the ISS bring a lot of music and movies. Up until a few years ago we basically did collect stuff from the web and pushed it to them. Now they can remote into a ground computer with Internet access I believe.

From what I've heard from the crew they spend a lot of time looking out of the cupola window.

Of course going to Mars you we'd be back to pushing data.

I guess we'll just have to create mars.forums.anandtech.com hosted on Mars. We can sync it with Earth periodically.

Hm....that'd probably mean the site would go down at 1am every night.

Some people here might actually work out ok on a long trip, especially a solo flight.
No people around, with the Internet as the only link to the outside world? Where, oh where, have I seen that scenario before....:hmm:

I doubt it would go down every night like that. I mean, even with the Earth-Mars link, how could somebody design forum software that poorly?

I did say symmetric acceleration/deceleration. Half way through the trip send the trolls to the opposite end of the ship.
