NH was a no go for me.
They said it was a 3rd party deal and only for non internet customers only.

Can't wait for FIOS. If it ever shows up here.

Called today, on my cell phone while I was out. (The 1-800-COMCAST number)
After being routed to a CSR, I explained that I wanted the "Get Ready for Summer", $19.95/mo for six months deal. She asked me to hold, and after a minute or so came back with, "The $19.95 per month for a year is only for new subscribers..." and my heart sank.

But then she continued, "However, there is a promotion for $19.99 month for six months for existing customers." JACKPOT! Since I was in a noisy department store when I called, we had some communication problems. She didn't hear me say six months, I didn't catch when she said one year.

I explain that that's the deal I was after, and asked if there was a catch, like is it a downgraded service? Nope. Same service, just $23 less per month for the next six months.

Many Thanks (and green) to whoever originated this thread!

EDIT: I'm in South Jersey (Gloucester County). It took less than 5 minutes even with the difficulties communicating.

Persistence is the key.

At least for me, in MS, if you enter your phone number during the weekday, you get routed to your local office. After getting shot down hard by my local office on Friday, I thought I'd try without entering my phone number. Got sent to the regional office (Memphis) and that CSR would do it either and then tried sending me thru to the local office.

I gave it one more try just a few minutes ago. I got a very nice CSR who found the code after a few minutes and applied it to my account.

I called on this and there was no way they were giving me that price.
But they did reduce my price from 42.95 to 29.95 for 6 months.

Hey to me that is a hot deal!
Thanks OP.

If you can't stay on topic, stay out of the thread!!!

Don't hold your breath for FIOS. Verizon isn't going to spend any money in Northern New England while they are selling off their wired business.

My girlfriend works at Comcast in Manch Vegas. She has contacts with Customer Service Managers and they are looking into it. They hadn't heard anything about it. I will let you know if I find anything out.

Waiting to try it out tomorrow. Why tomorrow? That's when complete Comcast has taken over here. It's when the billing switchover is being completed.

I hope this works for me.

Sweet. Chatted online with "Melinda" and she gave me the $19.99/month for the last 6 months after some hesitation. I said my friends got in on a deal, and I would like the same. She said something about providing proof...and I said it's okay if she can't apply the promotion on my account. After a few minutes of "looking for promotions", she applied the promotion.

Thanks OP!

Hopefully they'll give me a good deal for HSI+cable next year

Edit - Located in Davis, California And you guys are my friends

First of all, this has been known for years that you can call Comcast and possibly get a temporary promotion so if this is news to you it's time to catch up. Secondly, I know they recently relaxed some of the restrictions regarding posting coupon codes and such here but when the hell did it become acceptable to directly link to thread on FW? Seems a little inappropriate if you ask me.

Maybe I should have just posted the info as if I made it up, instead I linked to FW as to give someone else credit, would that have prevented you from crapping on this thread that so far has helped many people? So far you are the only one whose complained, and I've not recieved a PM or email from a mod saying my posting a link was wrong. Anandtech is not the only site out there that provides useful info regarding good deals to find.

May I ask why this bothers you? Second, if people are not aware of a current deal or promo, how would they in your mind find out about it? Just randomly call from time to time to find out if something is available? In my opinion your post was inappropriate, either that or your a Comcast hater. Lighten up a little..

Well, first things first I do hate Comcast but probably no more than 95% of their subscribers. I've suffered through their monopoly and price increases as many here have though I've been able to get discounts like this off and on for several years now. None of that is relevant to this discussion though. In fact, the whole nature of the deal is irrelevant...it's all in how it was delivered.

FWIW, yes, calling from time to time works great. This isn't a new thing that they're running right now. I called back in March and got the $20/mo HSI and free HBO for 6 months. I've gotten free HSI for 6 months, $20/mo for a year and various other discounts in the past. Often you have to threaten to cancel but sometimes you can get a cool rep on the phone who will just give you whatever the system allows them.

By directly linking to FW w no other input you're discounting the value of Anandtech. People often post the details of a deal with 'credit due to bob @ fw' or something to that effect which is perfectly fine. You're saying 'go to fatwallet to find the details of this deal' and driving traffic to their website away from Anandtech which is a completely different thing. In regards to Hot Deals, FW is a competing site and at points in the past it was taboo to even acknowledge their existance here. I stand by my statement that your post was inappropriate and should be edited to include the details of the deal and credit due to the person who originally posted it without the link elsewhere. I'm not losing any sleep over this but when something is rotten in Denmark it should be called out.

First off, most cable services are unique to an area. I can only get Comcast here. It was Adelphia last year. It's the way it is. The price of their service is comparable to the DSL here. However, currently I cannot get DSL which IMHO is more of a problem than having one cable company. I feel the phone companies should be required to expand their networks in metropolitan areas. Where I work there is also no DSL yet they are building about 2000 homes and two malls in that area.

In almost ANY service calling in time to time can get you a better deal. This deal in particular is a 'new' one although it has been called several different things in the past and more or less available if you push for it.

As far as linking, I think that's the way to do it. It makes no sense to be able to mention a deal is available from a site and not provide a link. Whether people type in the URL or click through it's going to happen.

In my opinion having a centralized place that reports the better deals out there is beneficial to me. I don't spend a lot of time on the other hot deal sites, but I can tell you most of ours get posted after they hit the other sites by our members that subscribe there.

As much as you were calling the wambulance about the 'comcast monopoly', you are hoping to create another here.

Well, I appreciate mrphones' thread here AND the link to the thread at FW. I was able to read more about the success and failure rates from the group of posters here AND the posters there. Also, I rarely get over to FatWallet (there I said it) but I constantly check out the HD forum here.

Thanks again OP.

Back on topic...

Smoochy were you able to get Comcast to give a good ol Houstonian the benefit of not being a Time warner slave anymore?

I am just looking for a reason to call the CSRs.

FIOS? I can't even get DSL at my address from Verizon. Comcast is the only option if you want HSI in my area.

BTW, my dad called the day after I did, and he got the deal, too. So, one more thanks for the OP.

OK. Just got off the phone with three different CSRs. All three pretty much told me the same thing but the second CSR (Diane) was the most helpful.

As far as the Houston area is concerned, there are no promotional discounts available through Comcast at all. The reason for this is because currently, all of our internet (meaning if you're paying for internet on your TW bill) is through a third party (Road Runner, Earthlink, etc) and not through Time Warner itself.

Our internet service will be switched to Comcast internet (from Road Runner, Earthlink, or whatever) sometime around mid-July. That is when our market will be offered special promotions because of the changeover from TW to Comcast. The third CSR mentioned this a couple of different times and made sure to say it was because they wanted to raise everybody's awareness that they offer different internet speed packages. I took that to mean they want to try to get everybody signed up for the 8mbps speed down package for a discount the first however many months so it can go back up of course.

Nobody could give me any idea exactly what kind of promotional discounts would be offered in the Houston area concerning internet except to say that they would be offered to us.

FWIW, I'm with Earthlink through TW and I currently pay $41.95 per month for my cable internet. The Comcast CSRs said that my internet is equal to their 6mpbs speed package and that were I to upgrade to their 8mbps speed package it would cost $59.95 per month (if there were no discount).

Hope this helps anybody in the Houston market concerning this thread and the Comcast promotion here.

no dice here in Baltimore. They said that it was for only HSI subscribers with cable TV and no internet. Maybe call them back later?
