So what happens when they call your bluff and cancel? Do you go through with it and go to another provider or do you tell them "You'll think about it some more" and call again?

Well I was always ready to cancel if they agreed to it. I suppose if you don't want to and they call you out on it you could just hang up on them in the middle of the call.

I remember a couple instances they would make a note on the account that you called on XX and time XX about cancelling.

So I used to pay $54 bucks for digital preferred cable with an hd box. Then they jacked my price up to 80 bucks but I was moving to a new apartment couple months back so I called to cancel. They asked why and I told them so they said they can offer me the same service for 6 months at $64 bucks total.

I didn't really want any cable but my gf spends weekends here and sometimes stays during the week one or two days. There's only one channel she wishes, ID discovery and its only available in the digital preferred option. I myself never watch tv much and I don't really care for it.

But now they jacked the price up to $90 bucks a month. My gf's sister has internet and tv through them and she says she calls and argues with them and they always drop her price.

I'm not so good with that tactic. Not sure what to do but I don't want to pay so much just for cable. I have business class internet from them for $59 bucks for a 1 year contract. I like it but I was stuck with the contract because a family member owned a business that didn't work out so he could not pay the etf.

Any tactics for negotiating ? Have you guys ever called and cancelled or what?
I suck at negotiating, but Comcast is probably the least flexible of the major cable companies. If you're not good at it, by all means have somebody else call in but you basically have to threaten to cancel service.

In your case of ONE channel, you really should be willing to cancel but if not, you can still threaten to cancel in 2 weeks as a tactic. Cable TV is virtually a local monopoly (satellite TV can't offer comparable Internet service, and the telcos think people still want landlines) so you have somewhat limited leverage to use against Comcast. Like Anonemous said, they typically log your calls so there's no sense calling 4 times a week hoping for a compliant rep.

Roku looks interesting but they don't have the investigation discovery channel. I'm going to call them later. They didn't seem interested in trying to lower my price except I could get basic cable for 45 a month for a promotion but those are just the basic channels. I'll have to keep looking for other steaming services.

I would throw up everytime I see this kind of bill. I cant imagine spending almost $3000 a year for tv/internet when at most ill probably watch 2-3hrs of tv at night.

My wife is pretty aggressive with Comcast, and I know she's gotten the bill lowered before. We're in North Jersey, and it could be we just pay more in this region. I'd drop it in a heartbeat, since the only way I watch "TV" anymore is streaming shows when I want to see them, and Comcast's streaming service is really terrible. Unfortunately for my wallet, my wife and kids all have network shows they follow.

I get physically ill every time I look at my comcast bill every month.

227.01 for the Hd Premier Bundle Xf

If it were not for the fact that we have 5 TVs in the house that all get used at some point throughout the day, 10+ devices that suck internet bandwidth like its going out of style and phone calls that are long distance for hours at times I would can it altogether.

See they have more reason to lower your bill than mine. I only have digital preferred but for internet I have their business class. Much better service and they are more helpful with support on the business side.

I'm calling them today to see if there is anyway they can lower my bill. I mean the digital starter has literally no interesting channels and like you guys stated, any time you want to watch something on xfinity you most likely need to buy it.

In total for residential cable and business starter internet I pay $144 a month.

Checked with Verizon it's not available in my area. Too bad I have no other alternatives.

Have you looked into DSLextreme? The area im in, I only get 3mb down for $27/month, but you might luck out and get faster speeds.

Just last month I cancelled my comcast cable TV and kept only internet. My cable bill was about $200 a month. What prompted us to do this was because we were watching most of shows through Hulu plus and Netflix through Apple tv anyway.

We haven't really missed it too much. All of our shows are on one of those two streaming providers. Our bill is now about $70 per month with Comcast. I was expecting them to give us a month free or discount it, but they didn't seem to care. Fine by me.

I'm in a contract with the business class internet for a year. I may keep it if I like it. I'm getting excellent speeds. When it ends I can get their 20mb download residential internet bundled with the cable tv.

I called and asked to cancel and they offered me 5 bucks off the bill for 6 months. I took that and I am going to return the hd box as my gf primarily watches tv and it doesn't matter to her if it's hd or not. Half the time we don't notice on my 32 inch tv.

Your TV probably has a QAM digital tuner. If so, scan for channels. You'll find some digital HD channels. At the very least, you find your local broadcast stations in digital/HD. The FCC requires that these channels cannot be encrypted.

Yea, if you have internet service, you'll have some of the basic cable channels if you hook up your tv to the cable outlet with a splitter. I tried this before and didn't find any HD channels. I just use an OTA antenna for that.

Well I got a standard box to drop 10 bucks off my bill but it's shit. The higher channels are pixelated to he'll. Sound cuts and so does the picture. Unwatchable. They only gave me a coaxle cable to connect the standard box.

Tech support had me troubleshoot it and they told me to bring the box back and switch it out. You think its the coaxle?

The hd box was connected using hdmi and I obviously didn't have this issue. I hope it is just this standard box. So disappointed if I have to get the hd box back for this to work.

Probably the box. Make them give you a new coaxial too just in case. Or if you can catch their contractors out working they'll most always give you some, they gave me over 500 ft piece once, however it was the aerial kind and is just a bit too thick for standard connectors to fit properly.

I had to go back to the office 3 times today. What a pain in the ass. And the lady there , there were 3, lines so long I don't know how I got her all three times.

She was asking why I came back that I already got 2 boxes replaced. The first was really bad reception, the second one would not activate after 45 minutes and the third one finally is working now. I picked up av cables from radio shack just in case but seems like both coaxle and av are fine now.

They gave me 20 dollars credit for having to go back and forth a total of 4 times including yesterday.

To their credit, Comcast doesn't make the boxes, so it's probably not their fault. Though they may be re using boxes people turn back in without telling them their bad?
I hate how hot the boxes get though, i don't get why their warmer than the heatsink on my Core i7, what kind of processors are they using in those things.

Your are probably right about the boxes being reused. Half of them look refurbished and used couple of dozen times. I'm just glad that I got a working one this time. I would of had to wait until next Saturday if not. Their appointments are always on days during the week when I will never be home.
