That's another rate increase of $10. My rate has gone up 3 times in the last year. The latest letter I have says we were on the shared billing plan (get discounts for cable tv) even though we don't pay for TV. As far as I know, we have never paid for TV and never got any discount for that, we were always charged for the normal Internet only plan. I am calling Comcast now to disconnect... I would rather go back to dialup then pay $53/month for broadband. Stupid bloodsuckers.

Well now, that is just a silly thing to say.

I'd rather have my balls removed than go back to dialup.

sounds like you're a prime candidate for a cheap DSL plan, i think those can still be had for around 30 per month. me, i'm a late night user, and so i usually get a big chunk of my road runner node to myself. I was downloading Debian CD's the other night, clocked my downstream hovering around 2.4Mbits/s all night long

your mad!

$59 a month is a lot for net access.

I'm glad mine is £25 a month.

that is a lot of money. Silly buggars. I wish DSL was available on my street, but won't be until this year I'd estimate. I'm very happy with my charter though, but competition is always good.

I would pay $150 for fast broadband. i would die before going back to dialup. Remember, the cost of dialup is not just the connection, but the phone bill too. it would be alot more than $150 for me if i had to go back to dialup.

DSL isn't offered at my house. Verizon wants $7000 to run new copper. I am in a major city too. Only other option is satellite, which we may be getting anyway for the TV access. Otherwise I'll just use my school's network when I want to download anything, and use dialup at home at night.

Depends on the ISP, like my current DSL ISP uses full DHCP with no PPPoE crud required. When I had Earthlink several years ago, they used PPPoE.

Yeah, when Concast took over AT&T and screwed up my connection that had been wonderful since the MediaOne days and wanted $10 more per month on top of that, I went back to DSL and the silly 128K upstream (thanks Verizon!). At least it's stable though, during the Concast switchover, the connection went from solidly reliable through all hours of the day to constant disconnects, packet loss, and latency issues. Not only that, but the tech support was anything but helpful. I hope the tards get regulated so'z I can get some good cable connection going again. They don't seem hard up for cash since the hostile takeover attempt for Disney and buying out TechTV, LOL.

Not really, I can download at a steady 2.6 MBit at all hours of the day with my Road Runner connection.

Like others have said the problem with DSL is you have to have a full phone line to get their special price. If not then you have t have the reg. $25 phone and pay a lot more for DSL. Now if you could DSL without the phone fee, then that would be a good deal.

I can get Earthlink for $42 a month or RR for $45 a month here in Raleigh. And you don't even have to have cable TV to get it at that price.

DSL is doing the same sh1t.

Bellsouth and SBC just added a bullsh1t "Regulatory Recovery Fee" that says it is to cover Government regulations and then in the next sentence says "No Government Entity is collecting this Fee".

It is strictly a raise in rates under fraudalent & phoney guise of pinning it on the Government while still advertising a lower rate.

I pay $60 a month for Comcast and I would never go back to dial up. They charge me the $60 because I don't have a TV so I'm not using their cable. If I was using cable for my tv I would be paying only $40 for my computer.

Bull sh*t if you ask me, but what can I do. I love it. It's so fast and I can't imagine going back to dialup. DL takes literally seconds. I can DL patches for my games within seconds. On dialup it would take me an hour.

Why don't you sign up for their BASIC package that cost like $7-15 a month and get the discount?

You live in Irving IIRC? Call up SBC or Verizon - it's about $30/35 for 1500/128 on Verizon and probably $26.95 for the same thing with SBC (one year) - they both service the whole DFW metroplex I think.
