Comcast data cap

Since this data capping started this month for us Comcast customers (especially the ones who dont have other broadband choices here other than AT&T), I'd like to start a thread for those of us who get shut off for going over 250gb. I'm interested primarily to know if they try to charge us a whole month of high-speed when we've been shut off, or if they pro-rate to the day we are turned off. Obviously I am sure they won't offer to prorate, so I'd like to hear about success/failure stories in refusing to pay for a service they are refusing to offer you. Should be interesting what excuses they come up with when we say "I'm not paying for the days I was shut off!"

Your contract was edited to include a 250GB cap. If they do hard cut you at the cap, you used your allocated amount and would not be reimbursed because you used your allocation. It doesn't matter if you did it in 3 days or 30. I highly doubt they will kill you off though, more likely load a 56kb/s config in your modem via DOCSIS or something like that.

If your getting close to 250GB a month, they do offer business accounts. I have one. Still no mentioned a 250GB cap in there. Then again I have a 3 year contract that still has the old agreements still in effect from 2.5 years ago. The new business contract does not appear to have a cap in it yet either.

They say flat out you get 250GB if you use it they arent going to prorate anything. You used what you paid for. They changed the TOS and there isnt anything you can do about it other than switching providers

Are they providing a way to track usage?
I have not been informed of anything in that regard by Comcast. It's an interesting point to bring up. If they can track it, (and obviously they can) I feel they should provide the means for the customer to access that information.

I don't P2P, I don't download movies, but I do work on others computers. I had one over here just last night and installed SP4 on a 2000 machine and a total of nearly 100 other updates. Besides updating drivers, etc. I realize the meter is running while I'm doing this. I would hate to get caught up in all this.

Although I don't know the rates for commercial service, I have to assume it's pricier than regular home service. I've got to believe that commercial service is out of my price range.

I would like a way to track my usage.

I would agree with you. If they are going to cap your bandwidth they should provide a way that you can track you usage. It would be like having a cell phone that you couldn't track your minutes on.

I just updated the DD-WRT firmware on my router and I now have a WAN Traffic Monitor.

This should be a relatively convenient way to keep track.

I feel for all of you.
The fact that they don't give you a way to track the usage is insane.
As for the data cap, I would kill myself. I monitor at the wan side of my router and use about 200-600GB a month depending on the month.
But i have a biz account anyways, so if they did that here i would be ok.
