Comcast Digital HDTV, anyone setup to use it?

i can't only seem to get it to do 480p in the initial menu thing.

is that right?

here's the deal.

i am using component connection between my cable box and my tv. my tv is 1080i capable.

you turn off the cable box and hit the menu key and it gives you choices with regards to you resolution.

the only one that works is the 480p one. if i select 1080i or 720p i get no picture.

Mine is set to 1080i, but I'm using HDMI. I doubt that makes a difference though, I'm pretty sure I was getting 1080i when I was using component too.

Mine is set to forced 720p, and always works that way.

It's the DVR box.

how do i know if it is 1080i or 480p when i'm watching it?

Your TV should be able to display what it's receiving on the screen. It's got to be in a menu somewhere.

hmm try switching the resolution and then either turn off/on the TV and then check or switch inputs. I used to work for a comcast contractor...its entirely possible that your box is bad.

Mine always displays the HD channels in 1080i but I think that setting is within the menu screen on my TV, not the comcast box. Not sure though.

That's odd - it sounds like a problem with the box or your set. I have had both a standard HD digital box and an HD-DVR from Comcast, and both worked, outputting at 480p, 720p, or 1080i through component.

is this common with comcast?

i get very little artifacting. in fact, i don't recall any. you might have a bad box.

one thing i would like to know is how i can change the guide so that it displays in widescreen. my HD channels are all 16:9 and my regular channels do 16:9 forced. however, the comcast guide displays with black bars on each side....waste of space!

i've got comcast on the phone. the girl is FVCKING IGNORANT.

OMFG, she is soo ignorant.

anyway, i'm going to schedule to have a technician come out and replace the box.

I'm pretty sure that it is impossible, as the box cannot overlay such resolutions with the current firmware. However, when the TiVo firmware gets pushed (hopefully soon) it should fix that.

strangly enough, i get HDTV wide screen resolutions via COAX but not via Component Video, could it be because of the cables i used?

Mine works via component at anything, I'm currently running 1080i.

Oh, there is a mode buytton on the remote of mine that can screw things up good. it's conveniently placed to the right of the zero button. It toggles between 4:3, full, stretch, etc.

Try a different method of connecting it, if you are using component then try HDMI if you don't have HDMI on your TV but have DVI then you can get a HDMI to DVI cable for pretty cheap from a place like cablesforless.com

turn the box off with the remote, leave tv on, press menu while box is off, config menu will appear, configure to your likeing, and enjoy =)

ive got 4 HD DVR's in my house, been running all the diffrent comcast hd motorola boxes since 2004

I noticed on my new Moto HD box that it has SATA ports, any clue if this is actually supported as a way of increasing my storage capacity?

hmmm, wondering if you read my op.

that was my point, i did exactly that and my tv won't display anything when i configure it to go at 1080i or 720p.

i'm sure it's not my TV so it must be the box.

i get 1280 x 1024 with this tv doubling as a pc monitor.
