Comcast (G4) to merge with TechTV

the G4 and TechTV channels are merging... and they are retaining the G4 name and most of their shows. Looks like the new channel will be much more focused on Gaming. Wonder how this affects X-Play...

I've only had TechTV a month, and was starting to like parts of it.

Hope I'll still be able to get the new channel on my DirecTV.

I wish they'd add it to their no digital lineup. I'd love to see it.

Both TechTV and G4 are good about 40% of the time on their own.

Together, they should make a half decent channel without the crappy filler programming.

Yeah but what if they go the other direction, and fire both Ronilynn Reilly and Morgan Webb?

Unlikely. For channels with a core viewing audience that is composed >85% male, they are smart enough to know they need to keep all the T & A they can.

Every time I turn on TechTV, it's ROBOT WARS. What an AWFUL show. They'd be better off running Dell infomercials, that might at least make the channel a little cash on the side.

I don't get G4 on directv, so I'm only familiar with TechTV.. Wonder if it will stay on satellite now that a cable company owns them?

The Screensavers is my favorite show on tv, not so much for the tech stuff, which is cool, but I like the people on it and the atmosphere. And it being filmed live is a plus.


But it's probably more expensive to make than most of the stuff on techtv or G4, so I'm concerend they'll gut it.

Sure, Screen Savers is more expensive than purchasing a syndicated show from overseas (like Robot Wars) but I doubt it's expensive by network standards. I get the feeling Leo and Patrick aren't making much more than six figures (much less the young staff and free interns.) I can't help thinking of high school when I see how Tech TV casts their "talent."

Leo's not hosting The Screen Savers any more. He'll be a regular, but it's pretty much The Patrick and Kevin Show now.

They'll be cutting the majority of that sh!t out. Im sure the merged station will keep the main TechTV shows, Call for Help, Screensavers, Fresh Gear, Tech Live, and Unscrewed. I mean thats only ~3 hours of programming. Cut out all the crap like robot wars and anime unleashed. Combine it with the good G4 shows and you'd have a better station than TechTV currently is.

TechTV was run by some people who thought it was cool to have shows about Tech. That changed a while ago for the most part.

Comcast is run by people who want to spend as little as possible and get the most advertising dollars. They will cut as much content as they think they can get away with and maintain or increase ratings. They don't give a rat's ass beyond that.
