Moved to a new area where Comcast is the service provider, it shouldn't be that hard to get internet and tv or should it? Went to a wi-fi hot spot and signed up for there Blast Plus! promotion, $49.99/mo for 6 mos of service which includes 50mb down and 10mb up internet and there digital economy tv which includes 45 channels or so. After 6 mos, price jumps to $69.99 for mos 7-12 then to $94.99 for years 2 onward.
Online it does not give you an option for self-install, there is an automatic $30 charge for a tech to come out and install the service. Comcast also charges $7/mo for a modem rental fee.
After i signed up, had to call into customer service to have them change from a truck roll to self-install.
When i go down to pick up the modem, the only one available is this huge Arris TG862G modem with built in wi-fi, phone ports and battery. It's 10" tall and 8" wide. They do not have any other docsis 3.0 modems at the payment center, so i accept it.
Then they get the cable box, the one they bring out is a Motorola DCT700 which has no hdmi ports, it was all beat up, looks like someone flung it out the window. If i wanted a digital cable box with hdmi that would an extra $10/month. No fucking thank you, so i accept it.
After hooking everything up, the speed is great, but there built-in wifi sucks, literally dropped connection every 5 minutes. Called into tech support to put the modem into bridge mode.. the response i get is what do you mean. They have no clue or won't do it. Only option is log into the interface myself and turn off wi-fi.
Hooked up the cable box with composite RCA cables, the picture looked like crap. Tried to bypass the box and of course all the channels are scrambled.
About 10 days goes by and i get my first online bill, its $182.99.. immediately call into customer service who tells me i am being billed $69.99/mo for the blast plus, $7 for modem rental fee and $100 service install fee.
They have no record of me signing up online for the $49.99/mo package even though i have a screenshot to prove otherwise.
I give them the account number and they cannot find any record of it. The account number the rep gives me back is completely different as well. They finally removed the $100 install charge but won't correct the $69.99 service fee.
Trying real hard not to lose my cool, hang up, go online and find for $14.99/mo i can get basic cable tv and for $24.99/mo i can get performance internet for 6 mos, 20mb down, still not bad.
Found a used Thomson RCA DCM425 modem on craigslist for $10 bux. Back down the payment center i go, return there modem and cable box. They give me a Digital Tuning Adapter (DTA), a basic pass though box to describable the picture. Doesn't have rca or hdmi hookups. Then i call tech support from the payment center to add my rca modem mac id to my account.
Comcast will only add approved modems from there website, so don't buy one that's not listed.

Back home, my purchased modem been working fine 2 weeks later and the tv picture looks fine.
I'm not paying $7/mo for a modem rental fee and $10/mo for an hdmi cable box, that's just insane. My monthly bill is now $39.98+tax, not too bad.
Prices for existing customers is less than price for new customer's. The trick is after your promotion is over is to speak to there retention dept, not customer service or billing who will let you keep the price the same. if you threaten to cancel.
I'm only getting 20 channels or so, which is fine, don't care about movie channels.
Don't know why Comcast makes life so hard for it's customer's, but they really need to get there head out of there ass.
