On a side note, how are their newsgroup servers? Verizon's are really good but for 19.99, it's cheaper than the 29.99 im paying now

fascinating - i'm in montgomery co, and they quoted 19.95/month till dec 2003 for internet and the cable package as 19.95/month for three months, then $40/month afterwards (but showtime free till the end of the year)... wtf?

Edit - as seen here

Ouch that bites. Verizon's really good and AFAIK, it's unlimited. (At least I hope so)

is it possible to get comcast even if when I type in my address the site says it can't find anything in my area? I've been stuck with charter pipeline since 99 and I really want to change to a better company.

I went ahead and ordered through BB today. Same offer, but no shipping charge on the modem since I did it in store. Picked up the Motorola 5100 modem, they had an open box marked down to $69.99, so I took it. Will make a couple bucks on the deal after rebates.

Wait, about this new customers only thing. So you have to never have used comcast cable internet to recieve this service? Or is it that you can only sign up for this offer if you haven't used comcast cable internet in 60 days?

For former attbi members you get a "special" newsgroup server which offers the same restrictions as attbi did (which is none).. Check their website for more info..

Free modem after radio shack MIR 80.00
$19.99 per month
Free install for brand new customer.
$13.50 Broadcast basic it sucks .

Connection up 5 minutes after initial hookup
I'd do it all again except for the broadcast basic it sucks

This is the best high speed offer so far I have seen. I jumped in right away and waiting for the cable guy coming over on Thursday. The CSR on the phone said that they upgrade the basic install to premier for free. Although not much use for me, may be useful to some.

The fine print in BestBuy's ads said that if you are not an existing Comcast customer, the deal becomes $14.95 more expensive. However, I think you can sigh up Comcast's lowest cable TV plan for $10 per month. That only give you local broadcase channels but it's definately better than anntena. Besides, it also have a handful of cable channels from time to time. I had VH1 and TBS for more than 10 months.

if you have cable tv from comcast already - you can get the exact same deal from your friendly best buy location and leave with a modem in hand....

free modem after rebates, free install and 6 months at 19.99

I called Comcast to check prices on cable tv service, in order to get the discount internet rate for customers. NW Indiana started a digital cable tv promotion, so I was able to sign up with:

$29.99 / month - Digital Cable for 4 months (May end Sept. 15)
$19.99 / month - Internet for 6 months (May end Aug. 31)
$24.95 - Installation Fee

Cable modem can be purchased for $130 or leased for $3 / month, so I will provide my own. Comcast requires no contracts, so that's pretty nice. The prices sky rocket after the promotions though. In order to get local channels only it will cost $26.99 per month. Basic cable is $40 and digital is $54.99.

The installation guy was really cool and did the "premium" install for no extra charge. Probably saved me half an hour.

I thought that the difference in installations, was that with the "premium" install, you also got a NIC for the computer. No?

Wow. I just recently got Verizon DSL here, and I think I've leeched nearly 40GB in less than a week! I just can't imagine a 1GB/month cap, that's like, barely more than a single CD's worth of data.

Granted, since VZ operate their own news servers, my connection to them doesn't take up any of VZ's upstream-provider bandwidth. (Well, if they even have one, they are probably a major peer themselves. But the point is that it doesn't take up any of their internet bandwidth, just their local service network. Unlimited newsgroup access is a major plus in my book. On the downside, my 1.5Mbit/s-provisioned link will only sync at 1.1Mb/s due to line issues.)

I've had comcast for 3 months now, and originally had 2mo free then $42.95/mo after that.

Saw this thread so I decided to call comcast and see if I could get the $19.99/mo until 2004 deal. The customer service lady was extremely nice. She had to ask her supervisor if I could switch to this "deal"... and the supervisor said yes.

So I now have $19.99/mo broadband until January 23rd 2004 and a $22.00 credit on my account from the one month I did pay.
