They still do throttling, but it's supposed to be protocol agnostic now.

My buddy in Chicago had WOW and ended up switching to Comcast because often he'd have corrupted RAR's from torrents. No problems with Comcast. So I think OTHERS might be messing with torrents, but Comcast doesn't appear to be one of them.

what they used to do is masquerade as your PC and break all your your torrent program's connections. so far as i know, they have not stopped that around here. if i run utorrent unchecked with multiple torrents, it will eventually sputter to a halt and my entire connection will go out.

I called the posted number and was told to call my local call center (866-372-4215). I did so and they said they don't have that particular special available here (at least, he couldn't find anything about it), but he did sign me up for a promotional rate on my Digital Start cable TV - $29.99 a month for one year. Good enough for me, I took it.

That's almost what happened to me - I had to go through my local Comcast, and they gave me the $29.99 rate for Internet for the 8-16Mb down and 2Mb up service (I had 8Mb down and 1 Mb up) for 6 months. I was paying something like $43 before, so I'm happy - faster service for less, can't beat it. It seems to me you can ask for a "discount" every once in a while - they seem willing to give you something, as long as you did not come off a recent deal.
So - thanks for the reminder to stir them up ;-)

This deal is good for those of us who only have access to comcast, like me. no fios in san francisco = ( Btw their support is outsourced to mexico, so expect things like clueless employees and cancellations of service by mistake. (happened to me)

They don't outsource their support... it just happens to be equal opportunity and they make it a point to be that way... but being the largest cable provider in the United States, it's likely that someone will get a bad experience.

Comcast had a booth in front of Fry's over the weekend.
They were also doing $29.99 a month for the standard digital cable package.
If I wasn't locked down with Surewest cable I'd go for it.

This internet deal is decent though.

edit: This was for new customers and you were locked into a 1 year contract.

Turns out this deal also includes free HBO for a year. Bonus!

Just got this today. Works for me since I casually surf and might play WoW once in awhile.

Comcast is terrible. Constant down time, slowdowns, and disconnects (even when websurfing/gaming). I'm waiting to either move out of here or for FiOS to move into the neighborhood, then I'm switching.

I ditched Comcast after the first 3 months. I had the "Up to 20mbps" service which I only really got in the middle of the night. I was lucky to get 300k in the evening when I got home. Canceled and switched to DSL. Don't be tempted if you're in an urban area! (I'm in San Francisco)

OP, what city and state are you in and or does anyone have a scan of the ad?

Comcast is my only option and I am paying $45 for the 5mb service so a little help would be awesome!

Thanks,

Thanks,

I am in South Florida. I had zero luck with this for my account or my parents' account. I ended up doing online chat a couple of weeks ago, and the CSR supposedly gave me the deal. I will have to wait for my next bill to verify.

I am off their email accounts, so I will cancell my account if she lied. I will switch to DSL if I have to.

I'm glad I read these forums - it's paying off. Here's my story:

I'm currently paying $119.95 per month for comcast high speed internet and cable TV:

$64.50 TV
$45.95 internet
$9.50 taxes and fees
$119.95 total

I was redirected to a promotions specialist. Then I was redirected to a customer retentions specialist. All people were friendly and understood what I was trying to accomplish. I told them I know you're offering this to new customers and that I'd have to be a total sucker to pay $25 per month more for the same damn thing.

After a little haggling the customer retentions specialist offered me the following:

$19.99 per month for high speed internet for 12 months
$52.48 per month for TV
$85.45 per month total after taxes, surcharges, etc.

So, a simple 20 minute phone call is saving me $34.50 per month...that's $414 over 1 year. The only "catch" is that there's a $75 fee if I cancel within the next year. Well at these prices I won't cancel. And, get this, the TV package they offered includes channels 2-200 (I was at 2-99), and includes the sports package and additional HD channels, including HDNet, National Geographic HD, NHL Network (don't think they have HD of this though), HBO, HBO HD, Big Ten Network HD, some FSNs, etc.

Plus, this is for the same speed internet (12 MB) I already have, that gave me a speedtest result of 23.85 download, 7.08 upload (I'd post the pic if I knew how).

Unreal deal I think.
