Before @Home went bust, my Comcast @Home upload was around 120K a sec which is about 1mbps. After Comcast (they suck) took over their own broadband connection, I instantly noticed my uploaded plummeted down to 15K (128kbps). That would be great if they up it just to stay competitive with RR and ATT etc.

Seems to me like their doing this because they are about to unleash a big rate increase.

I'm in Colorado and just got Comcast installed last week, they told me I'm getting 1.5 down and 256 up, but I pay $55 per month including modem (I don't subscribe to cable which would be $10 per month less). My results for the above test were:

Upload Speed 242 Kb/s
Upload Speed 240 Kb/s

Found out all of this from the Broadband Reports Comcast Forum.

Looks like they're doing it area by area:

Some users already have the 256k up speed,
Some are having problems with the new 1500/256 docsis config file,
Some are actually reporting new upload speeds ABOVE 256k,
and some are slated for upgrade in a few months.

Either way - prices ARE going up, but at different rates for different plans (see 4th paragraph) and at different rates for different areas.

Of course, I live in an Optimum Online area, and even with our recent price hikes I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER .
Thats a lotta links, forgive me if one or two of em's broken.

Yeah, I restarted my Motorola 4100 and the upload is increased to 256 kbps. Woohoo That is still a crappy upload speed but it's better than 128 which I verified prior to restarting the modem.

At least for my Cable modem in the SF Bay Area

In the @home days it was uncapped and ran about 4Mb down, 800Kb up

When they cut over to ATT, they started capping at 1.5Mb/128k

I noticed a couple months ago the upstream was running a little faster and I looked at the Config file that they upload to the Modem (older Surfboard 2100) and they up'd it to 1.8Mb/256k (not to bad, pay $42/mth, but I miss the old @home days.

Now that Comcast is taking over, I hope it doesnt get worse (or more $)

LOL I Know how you feel. Before they capped it I was getting 8mb/1.5mb....NO LIE! With a tweaked registry of course.

Their business model didn't allow them to continue operations.

I install for Comcast (formerly ATTBI) here in Northern Indiana and here it is 1.5Mb (usually more like 1.7Mb) down and 256Kb (sometimes as low as 230Kb, sometimes as high as 270Kb) up. I see a lot of peoples connections so my numbers are from a wide variedy of residences here in this particular area and may not reflect your indiviual area or situation. You must remember though that every house is different and shorter line distance, higer quality cable (RG6), less splitters, and higher quality splitters (1000MHz or higher) will give you the best connection speed for your area.

Also prices are 42.95/month (add $3 for modem rental) if you have cable TV with comcast and add $15 to each if you don't. As far as I know prices will not change from those numbers anytime soon. The non TV subscriber rates are up from what they were with ATTBI.

There were reports of this over in networking about a month ago. You won't get the new speed until you RESET your modem so that you can upload the new docsis file.

Losing my Directv dsl any day now, wish I was in a Comcast area, stupid Charter Cable sucks.

Ran that upload test, results were:
Upload Speed 215 Kb/s , 155 , 194 , 216 , 216 ... pretty darn good!

I've now been upgraded in SE Michigan.

I was getting about 80k last week. Now (ironically), I am getting about 128-136k...about half of the advertised bandwidth. My downloads are generally pretty strong (1500+ on fast servers, 900+ on slow ones), but the uploads suck.

huh....I wonder if things have changed for me yet. Nobody's at the apartment (we're both home in Troy), but I'll reset the router once I'm back.

Yea RoadRunner IS great. Best cable ISP IMHO.

2000/384 kbps for $40 a month (including rental) can't be beat.

Wish we had the option of paying more for a faster upload (like 768 or faster )

Hey, no one get their panties in a bunch while i say this....

Adelphia's Powerlink plans on doing the same thing as comcast. Its projected to come out during the early days of March. Also, From what i've seen, speeds are supposed to be faster than what comcast has posted & you get more extra's (more email accounts through adelphia, bigger mailboxes + free web hosting). Any thoughts? Anyone else hear about this?
