Yea RoadRunner IS great. Best cable ISP IMHO.

2000/384 kbps for $40 a month (including rental) can't be beat.

Wish we had the option of paying more for a faster upload (like 768 or faster )

Hows 10,000/1,000 for $40 sound? Cablevision/Optimum Online.

Hooray for Cox, I guess. 2849 up and 259 down. Pretty consistent too.

$39.95 a month for 256/3000.

The letter also specified that they were doubling Email account size from 5MB to 10MB, doubling address book size from 100 to 200 (not that its a big deal cause everyone is using their own email program anyway).

There is a little bonus if you own your cable modem. Comcast will credit your account for $3/month for 12 months. This will have the effect of offsetting their price increase for a year.

For those of you on Comcast that own your own modem... If you have serice issues
like service outage does tech support always blame your modem at first or
do they not hassle you about that. I would like to purchase my own and dump the rental fee
but I don't want to hassle with the tech support folks over a modem.

What is the best make/model for use on Comcast Cable? I was supplied the white RCA modem
from Comcast and have seen the same exact kit for sale at CompUsa and was curious if I should
just buy that one or a different one with better real life reported experiences?

Thanks in advance to any help regarding modem info.

I have a Motorola SB4200 (SurfBoard) and it runs fine. I got it at Circuit City.

I too have a Motorola SB4200. It works fine, but my router on the other hand... My upload speeds are still the same though. I'll have to check the cable bill when it comes in

Has anyone heard how this might affect Comcast Pro? I upgraded to this $90 package a few months ago specifically for the 384kb/s upstream, but if the regular users are now getting 256kb/s I feel a bit slighted.

i also got word from comcast about the upstream increase, they made note of it on the bottom of my bill. it says it will increase upstream to 256kbps starting in march of 2003 and the price of monthly service will increase by $3 and modem fees will be reduced by $2, lol dont ask why.

I'm in Northern Virginia and we already have 256k upstream.

It's $39.95 + $5 for the modem for 128k upstream = $44.95
It's $42.95 + $3 for the modem for 256k upstream = $45.95

So an extra buck... I splurged and got it

They're not bad about a modem, I don't think they've ever blamed anything on it (I use a linksys). The problem comes in if you're using a router

"A Router?!? Sir, they're not officially supported, NO WONDER you're having problems. Whats that? All your neighbors are having problems too? Well I'm sure its related to you and your router somehow"

LOL I have a Linksys 4 port router and I am using it with the RCA modem they supplied.
Is your modem a linksys as well?

I wonder if a Linksys modem and router will work well together

I use the LinkSys Modem and Router Combo, they stack nicely together (literally, they're stackable).

The Motorola SB4200 is a great modem, SB4100 is alright, andnow we are starting to see the hSB4220 and they seem to be just as good (although I have had one doa for the SB4220which has never happened to me with teh SB4200). I don't really like the 3COM and the RCA often seem to have problems. We don't see many Dlink or Linksys but they seem to work alright. Toshiba's rank right up there with the RCA in the suck category. Com21 are good but ugly. Just my opinions.

[EDIT] BTW I'm probably going to get a Linksys modem soon since I have a Linksys router and the stacking option is great. If I didn't have the router I would deffinetly go with one of the Motorola models, especially since in my area Circuit City is giving them away with activation.
